What is Destiny?

The fact that Allah Almighty has written in the Lauh-e-Mahfuz (The Preserved Tablet) everything that has happened, is happening, or is going to happen out of His Absolute Knowledge is called Destiny. is because Allah Almighty is outside the bounds of Time. Undoubtedly, He created Time (just like He created everything else.)

This

Time

At 8 oclock I dont know that you will be sleeping at 10 oclock because I am bound by time. But Allah Knows because He is not bound by time (or anything else) and His Knowledge is Written in the Lauh and it is called Destiny. IECRC 7/8/12

Destiny Do we Choose?

Are we forced to act according to our Destiny?

No its the opposite.

Because Allah already knows what we are going to do, He has written it. But we intend and act based on knowledge, intelligence and the freedom of choice that Allah has given us.

So in the previous slide, you didnt sleep at 10 oclock because it was written, but it was already written that you will sleep at 10 oclock, because Allah Knows Everything.

Destiny

Question: Allah Knows Everything. Then why does He not stop bad things from happening?

Answer: First of all things happen in two ways:

1.

Things that happen to us (that we have no control over, either because of someone elses bad actions or a natural occurrence)

What we may think is bad may not be bad for us from an Akhirah point of view.

2.

Things that we do (that we have control over, that affect us and/or others)

We have to learn from our own mistakes. When others are badly affected by our bad actions, then that is part of Allahs Greater Plan. IECRC 7/8/12

Deniers of Destiny
They are considered the Magians (fire-worshippers) of this Ummah.

Should we Plan?
Yes, we are taught to tie our camel, and then trust in Allah. (Hadeeth) It is not correct to say Oh why bother planning! Things will happen as it is written in our destiny anyway!

Can Destiny Change?

Three types of Destinies
The real destiny is written in the Lauh-e-Mahfuz and is the Absolute Knowledge of Allah Almighty, so it cannot change. It is called Taqdeer Mubram Haqeeqi.

However there are two other types of destinies called Taqdeer Muallaq and Taqdeer Mubram Ghayr Haqeeqi that are written on the scrolls of the angels and the borders of the Lauh-e-Mahfuz. These can change by good actions, prayers and intercession of pious people. But remember that the this changing is all part of the real Taqdeer written in the Lauh, so in reality nothing is really changing from the Lauh. IECRC 7/8/12

Can we blame Destiny?

Can we do a bad action and then blame it on destiny?

No. Because again, you didnt do the bad action because it was written. You chose to do the bad action and are accountable for it. Accountability can only happen if we have the freedom to choose.

Final Word on Destiny

Our great Sahaba (may Allah be well pleased with them) forbade us from arguing about destiny. The best way to understand it is:

We do not believe in100% freedom to choose. We do not believe in 0% freedom to choose.

We believe in a Middle Path.

Destiny is a Mercy from Allah Almighty because it helps us in IECRC 7/8/12 closure and about making sense about the past and moving
