What is Deforestation?
Deforestation is the permanent destruction of indigenous forests and woodlands. The term does not include the removal of industrial forests such as plantations of gums or pines. The land is then converted into a non forest use, which includes quarrying, housing settlements ,areas for agriculture and industrial sites.

Why does deforestation happen?


Commercial logging (which supplies the world market with woods) destroys trees as well as opening up forests for agriculture; Conversion of forests and woodlands to agricultural land to feed growing numbers of people; Development of cash crops and cattle ranching (pasture for livestock), both of which earn money for tropical countries;

Causes of Deforestation
Depends on the country. Example in Brazil the main reason is cattle ranching, Ethiopia is shifting agriculture and in Trinidad and Tobago is quarrying and Illegal logging.

How to prevent deforestation?
