MTX Overview
Introduced to the North American market in 2007 as a repackaged T300MVi design The Toshiba MTX is the first VFD designed for outdoor mounting (in above freezing environments only) Desert and Jungle and everything in between is what Toshiba mentions It features a 3R rain tight enclosure which is convection & forced cooled Toshiba only offers 3 different power ratings @ 4160V Provides 36-pulse harmonic cancellation (std. T300MV has 24pulse) Product currently only sold in North America

Power modules are designed with the heat sinks out-the-back to send waste heat to the atmosphere. The interior of the inverter section is cooled using plate-type heat exchanger(s) so it remains cool and clean without introducing outside air. The new topology is a logical progression of the proven T300MVi design in a UL Raintight enclosure. Toshiba claims you will achieve a lower cost of ownership with the MTX because heat removal from a building-based drive is eliminated.

MTX disadvantages MTX only suitable in outdoor environments where temperature does not dip below 0C (night or day) Humidity tolerance is the same as T300MV drive 95% noncondensing therefore installation and repairs restricted to weather permitting days Same draw-out power module assembly as T300MVi requires lifting cart making service time longer and awkward in the field. Even with integral dv/dt filter cable distance still limited to approx. 330m. Limiting installation distance from motor.

Conclusion MTX primary target market seems to be customers in lower US states (and other warmer environments @ less then 1000m altitude) MTX drive is a lower cost solution when compared to R-A drive and control house solution but the sacrifice is limited serviceability with the MTX drive in less then perfect weather conditions MTX uses same internal design as the T300MVi therefore reliability of IGBT devices and cascading failures due to IGBT ruptures may pose difficult service conditions when drive is outdoors
