Introduction
This pump hydraulics calculation sheet is used to decide the required performance of pump i.e. Head, NPSH, estimated shut-off pressure, estimated power consumption and the optimum line size.
Introduction
This Microsoft Excel Tool includes: User Guide Calculation Sheet Form Data Input/Calculation Sheet Pipe Dimensional Data as per ANSI/ASME Pipe Dimensional Data as per JIS
It is recommended to save the file without Guide and Form to minimize the volume of the file and to keep the original file as original. User should draw process flow sketch. Data should be entered in white cells only.
How to use
Calculation Sheet
Title
In addition to general information (like Client, Plant/ unit name, Work No.), Item No., Type of pump, No. of pumps in working mode as well as in standby mode are to be specified.
Flow
A simplified process flow sketch can be drawn in this section.

Operating Conditions
Temperature, specific gravity, viscosity & vapor pressure data is required for further calculations. Percentage of Over design is calculated using normal and design capacity of pump.
Hydraulics
It is possible to calculate hydraulics in maximum three divided sections. Extreme right end column in both suction and discharge side should be used for any configuration.
Toyo Engineering India Ltd. 2008
If two destinations are specified in discharge side, then calculations results are obtained in following manner:
Discharge side
1st column 2nd column 3rd column
Calculated Section
From pump to branch From branch to destination1 From branch to destination2
Temperature, Specific gravity, Viscosity and flow rate values should be entered. If values are unspecified then data given in Pump operating conditions is used for calculations in following priority order: Sp.Gr. : Minimum Viscosity: Maximum Normal Normal Maximum Minimum
Toyo Engineering India Ltd. 2008
Similarly, if flow rate value is not specified following default will be used:
Suction side:
For section to MID1(1st column) Pump design capacity X No. of working pumps Pump design capacity
Pump normal capacity
For hydraulics calculations Nominal pipe size, wall thickness and pipe ID values are also required.
Toyo Engineering India Ltd. 2008
To enable the use of piping database provided with this sheet enter inch index() along with pipe size. Specify reference standard & schedule number for wall thickness. 1 represents ANSI / ASME 2 represents JIS Pipe ID is calculated automatically in this case. If pipe ID is specified directly then values of Reference standard and wall thickness are neglected. Pipe roughness value is required for pressure drop calculation.

Equivalent Length: For suction side, input number of fittings on the cells in Note *4) of this sheet. Also specify the factor by which calculated Total Equivalent length to be multiplied.
For discharge side total equivalent length value (including actual length) to be given as an input.
Toyo Engineering India Ltd. 2008
Actual pipe length is required for both suction as well as discharge side. Pressure loss for individual components like strainers, heat exchangers, control valves etc. can be entered. Using liquid levels and elevation data liquid static head is calculated. Thus, minimum suction pressure and required maximum discharge pressure resulted from hydraulic calculations are indicated. If there exists two destinations, then larger required discharge pressure is indicated.
Deviation from this discharge pressure for each destination is also indicated.
Differential Pressure:
Based on results obtained from hydraulic calculations, decide values of suction and discharge pressure.
Once suction and discharge pressure values are entered, head and margin included will be calculated.
If specific gravity is unspecified here, then its value from Pump Operating Conditions will be considered in following priority order: Minimum Normal Maximum
NPSH available (NPSHA) must be greater than NPSH required (NPSHR) by the required margin (for guidelines see GR-TEG1-1211-103).
Pump efficiency value is required for BHP calculation. If it is not specified, then above estimated value is used by default. If vendor data is already obtained, use vendors efficiency.
This factor is based on anticipated performance curve. Usually 1.3 is applied for Shut off pressure calculations. However, actual shut-off pressure of the selected pump sometimes exceeds that calculated by using factor of 1.3. Thus, final shut-off pressure shall be confirmed with the selected pump vendors data.
The pump calculation file PUMPCALC_2.0E.xls will be loaded while loading Line sizing program and will be available in the same folder. This file is to be used for pump hydraulics calculation.
