Objective of steam blowing

To remove scale, loose materials, iron cutting etc that might may have remain entrapped super heater, reaheater and steam pipings during manufaturing ,storage and erection.

SERVICES REQUIRED
Availability of required quantity of DM water and fuel oil. Availability of HT, LT power supplies. Availability of Service & instrument air. Availability of Aux. Steam and dosing system. Availability of permanent fire fighting system.

STATE OF THE PLANT:

1:BOILER is ready in all respect including interlock, protections, alarms &measurements ,chemical dosing system. 2:MDBFP is ready with all controls, interlocks &protections. 3:Hydraulic test of the line to be steam blown is over. 4:All permanent &temporary pipings are insulated & properly supported. 5:Reliable communication system is available between control room, boiler ,TG& in other operating area. 6:The exhaust is properly cordoned off and notices displays prominently.

Steps for steam blowing

Steam blowing shall be done in eigth stages.1,2a,2b,3a,3b,4a,4b and 5. Puffing mehod is used seam blowing of stages 1,2a,2b,3a,3b. Steam blowing for stages 4a,4b and 5 shall be carried out by continous method.Duration of each blow shall be 20-30 minutes. The time gap beween two blow dshould be 2 hrs

CLEAN FORCE RATIO OR DISTURBANCE FACTOR

In order to properly clean such piping, it is essential to develop a momentum that exceeds the momentum encountered during normal operation. The measurement of this cleaning is referred to as the Cleaning Force Ratio (CFR), or the Disturbance Factor (DF), DF= [Wb/Wn]2 [Vb/ Vn ] where: Wb = Mass flow rate during the blow, Wn = Normal mass flow rate, Vb = Specific volume during the blow, Vn = Normal specific volume. Calculations determine the start and stop pressure for each blow. Pressure readings taken during the blows ensure that the momentum will meet or exceed the CFR goa

Stage 1-super htrs, main steam lines uptoESVs,temporary line from ESVs to EOTVs and temporary line from EOTVS to exhaust. Stage 2a- super htrs, main steam lines uptoESVs,temporary line from ESVs to EOTVs and temporary line from EOTVS to CRH lines,CRH lines upto reheater inlet and temporary line upto exhaust. Stage 2b- super htrs, main steam lines ,HP bypass interconnection having hand operated valves mounted inplace of HP bypass valve and,CRH lines upto reheater inlet and temporary line upto exhaust.

Stage 3a - super htrs, main steam lines uptoESVs,temporary line from ESVs to EOTVs and temporary line from EOTVS to CRH lines,CRH lines ,reheater ,HRH lines to Ivs and temporary line upto exhaust. Stage 3b- super htrs, main steam lines uptoESVs,temporary line from ESVs to EOTVs and temporary line from EOTVS to CRH lines,CRH lines ,reheater ,HRH lines and LP bypass to temporary exhaust line.eight blows are given for LP bypass lines.

Stage 4a-steam line from CRH to TDBFP-A ESV.This stage is concluded by observing the indents on traget plate. Stage 4b- steam line from CRH to TDBFP-B ESV.This stage is concluded by observing the indents on traget plate. Stage 5- auxiliaries steam lines 5a-from prds to TDBFP- A ESV. 5b-from prds to TDBFP- B ESV. 5c-from CRH to turbine extraction line. 5d-from to extraction 4 to dearator through EX-13. 5e-from CRH to deaerator/FST through CRH 8.

5g-from CRH to Turbine gland sealing header. 5h-from CRH to PRDS to Aux steam header 5i-from main steam line to PRDS to aux steam header.

COMPLETION CRITERIA
Stages 1, 2a, 2b, 3a, 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b For the first few blows target plates need not be kept. afterwards target plates made of mild steel are to be used. Target plates are mounted in the temporary exhaust pipe nearer to the permanent line. Steam blowing can be declared complete only after ensuring cleanliness of target plates. The piping is considered clean if there are not more than five pittings on the target plate central zone and no deformed edges. This should be achieved in three consecutive plates. In addition to this, for stages 1, 2a and 3a disturbance factor at selected location should not be less than 1.4.

COMPLETION CRITERIA
Stage 3b
Minimum 8 nos. of blows are to be given.

Stages 5c to 5i:
Steam blowing is declared complete based on visual observation. Minimum three number of blows

Objective of safety valve floating

The objective is to float all the safety valves one by one by actually raising the pressure of the boiler to set values of the valves and also to set the blowdown of the valve within 3% - 5% of the set value.
