POPULATION AND CLIMATE

The population of Greece is 10.964.020 The capital of Greece is Athens.
The climate in Greece is predominantly Mediterranean.

However, due to the country's unique geography, Greece has many local variations of climate. To the west the climate is generally wetter and has some maritime features. To the east it is generally drier and windier in summer. The highest peak is Mount Olympus at 9,570 feet (2,916.9 m) tall.

INDUSTRY
Tourism accounts for almost 1/5 of the countrys gross

domestic product and 1/5 jobs. Exports rose 40% in the first half of 2011, after a 25% drop in 2010, but they account for a much smaller share of gross domestic product. Shipping, which feeds tourism, performs well, too. The number of passengers on cruise ships in Greece went up 28% in the first eight months of 2011

SIGHTS
Greece has got many archaeological sites. One of them is the Acropolis; it is the most beautiful and popular monument in Greece. The Acropolis is in Athens.

Delphi
Another very interesting archaeological site is Delphi, a place of mythology. There are two temples dedicated to Apollo and Athena.
This was an oracle place where Pythia used to give answers to people asking for help. There is also a museum.

Other sites are Knossos in Crete
Achillio in Corfu and

many many more.

Athens is almost in central Greece

Population
The population of the city is 4.560.987.

Sights
Athens has a lot of sights. Some of these

sights are the Parthenon and the Greek Parliament.

The Parthenon
The Parthenon is built on the Acropolis hill and it is about 2,500 years old.

The Greek Parliament

The Greek Parliament is in the centre of the city at Syntagma square.
It was built in 1840 as a Pacace for the king and became a Parliament in 1922.

The modern city of Athens

Nowadays, the city has

changed a lot. It is modern city with tall buildings and traffic. Many people from other countries have come in Greece, because in their countries they dont have jobs. Many of these people are Albanian, Pakistani, Indian and others.

VATHY, OUR VILLAGE

Locations
Vathi is near the city of Chalkida which is on the island of Evia.

Population
Our village, Vathi, is a beautiful place where around 2.500 people live.

Weather
The weather in winter is cold. Sometimes it snows. This year we didnt go to school for two days because it snowed.
In the summer the weather is very good and sunny and we usually go swimming.

Life in the village

We havent got tourists because our beach is not clean. The sea is polluted because the factories pollute it. There are some shops, such as a supermarket, cafes and shops with many things. Vathi has four big schools.
