BINANI CEMENT LIMITED

Binani Cement Limited is the flagship subsidiary of Binani Industries Limited (BIL), representing the Braj Binani Group. The cement business started operations in 1997, in Sirohi District, Rajasthan. The Company has operations in India, China and Dubai. Binani Cement Ltd. has a consolidated global asset base of $ 616 million and gross income of $ 550 million for the year ended 31st March '10. the Company is certified with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 which clearly illustrates the management's commitment to quality and efficiency, environment, and health and safety of their employees.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL SYSTEM


The company has an effective system of employees appraisal in place which allows the performance of its employees to be assessed through an objective and transparent process. It involves the following steps: Targets are set for the year for every employee. A half-yearly review takes place for all the employees to review the targets achieved till date and to set new targets if necessary. At the year end an annual review takes place in which a progress report is prepared by the employee and assessed by the assessing officer (immediate superior).

TRAINING MEASURES

The Company offers its employees comprehensive on-going training in order to raise their competence and capability. This training is tailored to its evolving business environment and corporate needs with the objective of improving customer services. Training of the employees at the factory office is conducted separately since the numbers of employees at the factory offices are huge (around 1500). Training of pan India marketing staff is conducted jointly at different levels i.e. top level management, middle level management and officers.

KESORAM INDUSTRIES LIMITED

The Company is a well-diversified entity in the fields of Tyre, Cement, Rayon Yarn, Transparent Paper, Spun Pipes and Heavy Chemicals with two core business segments i.e. Tyres and Cement constituting about 94.91% of the turnover as on 31.3.2011.

WHO APPRAISES: The appraiser may be any person who has thorough knowledge of job content attributes and standards for appraisal. The appraiser should be able to determine which attributes are important in performing a particular job. He should prepare reports without any bias and leniency. Typical appraises are superiors, peers, and subordinates, employees themselves (self-appraisal). Appraisal by all i.e.360 degree appraisal.

NEED FOR TRAINING: The purpose of training in Kesoram cement industry is to develop the abilities if the individuals and to satisfy the current and future manpower needs of the organization. The aim of providing training to the employees in Kesoram cement is: To see that skills and knowledge of all employees in the company should cope up with the latest technology and development. To enable to do the job in more effective way to reduce manufacturing time, supervisory time, waste and spoiling of raw material. To increase the employees level of performance though instructions which directly leads to increase in productivity and companys profit To prevent the industrial accidents which ultimately leads to safer work environment To improve the quality and avoid the operational mistakes. To meet the needs of human resources within organization when the need arises.

CONCLUSION
From what we have seen so far the training and performance appraisal activities of the two companies are quite similar. Although these HR measures are much more defined in Kesoram Industries than in Binani.
