UNDERSTANDI NG BMI
q
Brain machine interfac e sometimes called a direct neural interface or brain computer interface, is a direct communication link between a functioning human brain and the outside world. BMI uses brain activity to command, control, actuate and communicate with the world directly through brain integration with peripheral devices and systems.

TYPES of BMI
q
Invasive Brain Machine Interfaces - implanted directly into the brain and has the highest quality signals. - provide functionality to paralyzed people. Partially Invasive Brain Machine Interfaces - implanted inside the skull but outside the brain. Non Invasive Brain Machine Interfaces

WHY BMI
The field of BMI has emerged mostly toward neuroprosthetics applications that aim at restoring damaged hearing, sight and movement.

MAIN PRINCIPLE
Main principle behind this interface is the bioelectrical activity of nerves and muscles. Brain is composed of millions of neurons. When the neuron fires, or activates, there is a voltage change across the cell which generates signals on the surface of the brain. By monitoring and analyzing these signals we can understand the working of brain.
4/25/12
The easiest and least invasive method is a set of electrodes -- a device known as an electroencephalograph (EEG) -- attached to the scalp. The electrodes can read brain signals. The electrodes measure minute differences in the voltage between neurons. The signal is then amplified and filtered. In current BMI systems, it is then interpreted by a computer program

BMI vs NEUROPROSTHETICS
q
Neuroprosthetics typically connect the nervous system to a device. BCIs usually connect the brain (or nervous system) with a computer system.

IMPLANT DEVICE
The EEG is recorded with electrodes, which are placed on the scalp. Electrodes are small plates, which conduct electricity. They provide the electrical contact between the skin and the EEG recording apparatus.

CHALLENGES
bmis will help creating a Direct communication pathway between a human or animal brain and any external devices like computers. Permanent damage to brain. Virus attack on brain. Thought control and prediction of future thoughts. Deletion or recording of memories.
LIMITATIONS

FUTURE EXPANSION
Thought-communication device. New research has demonstrated that it
is possible for communication from person to person through the power of thought alone. This experiment goes a step further, with the aim was to expand the current limits of this technology and show that brain-to-brain (B2B) Super communication is possible.intelligent
CONCLUSIO N
BMIs will definitely have Click icon to to change the way a the abilityadd picture person looks at the world by giving people back their vision and hearing. But the question is that What kind of people are we becoming? Is someone with a synthetic eye, less a person than someone without? Shall 4/25/12
