Domestic courier services

Domestic courier service was the heart of TCS. This business unit offered a wide range of services including Same day express Overnight express Second day express

International courier services

The international courier services business covered over 200 countries, providing the same breadth of services as domestic courier services.

Overland express
Overland express offered its client fast bulk cargo solutions. Services included door to door pickup and delivery, regular daily departures from all major cities to over 150 locations, shipment tracking with delivery confirmation, insurance coverage, refrigerated cargo handling and customized transportation and project- handling capabilities.

Sentiments express
Sentiment express was a gift-delivery and greetings service that demonstrated TCSs innovative ability. TCS successfully created the local market for gift delivery, much like its pioneering concept of express courier services in 1983.

Operations
TCSs business operations relied on a sophisticated hub and spoke system that was designed for maximum efficiency. Domestically, the company operated two planes that flew a unique route system covering five key hubs.

Competitive Landscape
TSCs had a host of aggressive competitors in Pakistan. The three biggest competitors are 1. OCS( second to TCS in both the overland and gift delivery segment) 2. TNT (was fourth in domestic segment, third in gift deliveries, and
had equal market share with TCS in the international segment)

3.

Leopard ( in terms of market share it was second to TCS in the

domestic segment)

Financing
TSC had been self-funded since inception.

The company had never taken on any long term debt and relied on

a working capital facility with its commercial bank for its short term financing needs. Key part of its overall financing and growth strategy, TCS had historically used leasing extensively to acquire assets.

TCS Culture
The TCS culture was characterized by innovation, openness and collaboration and fully geared to meeting the goal of being an outstanding service provider.

Core Values
Quality

TCS people should direct every effort to deliver maximum value and satisfaction to our customers. Profitability through Efficiency Efficiency will be the hallmark of TCS people to optimize profitability and growth. Ethics Nothing unethical shall be practiced by TCS people in relation to our customers and the world at large. Justice Justice to be the guiding principle of TCS people. Creative Growth In its quest for expansion TCS shall encourage innovative thinking amongst its people. .

Key Challenges
First and foremost, the government bureaucracy in Pakistan was a

constant obstacle to business. The post office periodically challenged TCSs right to deliver certain packages, alleging they were letters under
the1898 act and hence could only be transported by the post office.
Second major concern was the uncertain macroeconomic directions of

the Pakistan economy.

Furthermore real GDP growth had slowed from 3.9% in 2000 to 2.6% in

2001, and a further slowdown could directly impact the growth of TCS.
