The bride- This character is a Victorian adolescence who is soon to be married, showing that the social representation of this character is a teenage girl. Due to her age most of the recent media would stereotypically portray her image as a school girl crush but due to the time period, it is more acceptable for this young girl to marry. Zoe- Zoe is a typical teenage girl who has been in a long term relationship with her boyfriend Joe, they are fairly inseparable like most teenagers seem to be in this day and age. She represents herself to be a general teenager which the audience can relate to with a parasocial relationship with the on screen character, they would expect her to be the final girl in this horror, however in this film the female characters all die first. Joe- Joe also is easy to relate the both male and female audience members could connect with him, seeing the horror in his eyes when his girlfriend is found dead. All of the characters within the film are teenagers but parents could also relate to the film, imagining that is there own son or
Due to the beginning of the film being set in the 1890s (the late Victorian period) young ladies often got married at the age of 15-18. Anna therefore represents a Victorian adolescence who is soon to be married, showing that the social representation of this character is a teenage girl. Due to the Victorian frilled styled wedding dress and the wooden hallow stairs that the bride walks down on the opening shot, the audience can relate to this realising that the film is first set in the Victorian period, understanding why Anna is at such a young age to be getting married.
Anna is a teenage bride who appears to have a higher class due to her being able to afford such a valuable wedding dress, especially as within the Victorian period only the wealthy could afford such valuable items on their wedding day. She plays a white British who values god as you would assume she is having a marriage within the church. Mise en scene is used throughout the film, one example being the costume Anna wears as a traditional bridal gown, this sets the scene of who Anna plays within the film.
Happy bride ready for her wedding day. The hair is tied back so that the audience can see her facial expressions changing dramatically form a happy bride, to zombie bride. The story does not actually show she is stood up, however it is implied by the sudden change in music, and makeup down the brides eyes, suggesting
The stereotype for a teenager is to be rebellious, the bride then accepts this social norm. She rebels against any teenager she then sees in love. This sweet teenage bride, turning dramatically and quickly into something evil, here the audience can tell she is no normal teenage girl.
On the opening scene of Anna walking down the stairs the camera angle appears to be looking up at the bride who comes down the stairs, when using this low shot to start the film it instantly gives the impression that this character is powerful and owns authority which is strange to see when looking at a teenager. When the bride realises that she has been stood up from her own wedding, the camera is pointing at a high angle, therefore making Anna look small, this contrasts the shot from earlier; by making her look small, unloved; upset the audience creates sympathy for this young girl making the audience think she is too young to marry and understand what love is. When the bride goes to kill her first victim Zoe, an over the shoulder shot is used this is usually used when conversation is being flown between characters, however this technique is used within the film to see the bride about to kill Zoe, seeing the anger within such a young innocent bride, makes the audience feel uncomfortable.
