Participation In the Mass

One way to show our love and thanksgiving to God is by actively participating in the Eucharistic Celebration. In your own experience of the Holy Mass, list down 5 ways by which you actively participate in it.

Whenever we celebrate the Holy Mass, we are invited to participate in it wholeheartedly. Each part of the Mass invites us to participate in a different way.

1 Corinthian 11:23-26

1. What did Jesus say after he had given thanks and broke the bread? 2. What did Jesus say after supper? 3. According to Jesus, how many times are we going to eat the Bread of Life?

At The Last Supper: - Jesus gave his Body and Blood - Jesus Celebrated the First Mass. - Jesus started the Eucharistic Celebration.

Today, - whenever we celebrate the Eucharist, we remember the great love of Jesus for us.

ORDER OF THE MASS I. INTRODUCTORY RITE - Come Jesus invites us in each Mass to join Him in praising the Father. A. ENTRANCE and GREETING We come together to celebrate. We welcome the priest and one another. We stand and sing an entrance song.

B. PENITENTIAL RITE The priest invites us to think of the ways we have offended God and one another. We ask God and one another for forgiveness. C. GLORIA On most Sundays and feast days, we all sing or say this song of praise.

D. OPENING PRAYER The priest prays on our behalf. We show that we agree to the prayer by saying Amen.

II. LITURGY OF THE WORD Listen God speaks to us through His words in Scripture. We listen to Him attentively. A. FIRST READING This is usually from the Old Testament. It tells of Gods love and faithfulness and His works among men.

B. RESPONSORIAL PSALM This is a prayer or song that we say/sing in response to Gods word. C. SECOND READING This is read on Sundays and feast days. It comes from the New Testament, particularly from the letters of the apostles or the epistles.

D. PROCLAMATION OF THE GOSPEL We stand and sing our hymn of praise (Alleluia) to show that we are ready to listen to Jesus who speaks to us in the Gospel through the priest. E. HOMILY The priest explains the readings and how we can follow Gods message for us and apply it in our lives.

F. PROFESSION OF FAITH This is said on Sundays and special feasts. In this prayer, we say the creed, a formulation of what we believe as Catholic Christians. We tell God that we believe in Him. G. PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL We pray for all the needs of Gods people.

III. LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST - Give thanks - We remember what Jesus said and did at the Last Supper, how He gave Himself to us to keep us united with Him always.

A. PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS (OFFERTORY) We bring the gifts of bread and wine to the altar.

B. PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS - The priest says a special prayer for the bread and wine and invites us to pray with Him.

C. EUCHARISTIC PRAYER -The most important prayer. -The priest repeats the words of Jesus during the Last Supper. - The bread and wine will become the Body and Blood of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit during CONSECRATION.

CONSECRATION.

- We pray for the various needs of the Church, for our Church leaders, for those who have died. - We join the saints in their prayer. - This long prayer ends with the DOXOLOGY (prayer of praise as an expression of Gods glory) and we respond by saying the GREAT AMEN. - We tell God that we are one with Jesus in offering this great sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.

COMMUNION RITE D. LORDS PRAYER - We are united as we pray to Our Father in heaven in the words Jesus Himself taught us. E. RITE OF PEACE - We show our willingness to share Christs peace and love with others.

F. BREAKING OF THE BREAD -The priest prepares the Body of Christ for distribution. We sing or say the LAMB of GOD.

G. COMMUNION - We receive the body (and blood) of Jesus. We say Amen to express our faith that Jesus is indeed present in the Holy Eucharist. We go back to our place and talk to Jesus in the silence of our hearts.

H. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION - We pray with the priest that our union with Christ may change our lives and make us strong in loving and serving others.

IV. CONCLUDING RITE Go and serve - At the end of our celebration with Christ we say Thank you and we go out to bring Gods love to others.

A. BLESSING The priest blesses us in Gods name. B. DISMISSAL We are sent out to love and serve the Lord. We are sent out to live the Mass.

WE ARE INVITED TO PREPARE FOR THE MASS. -We should come to Mass with a clean heart so that we can offer it worthily to Jesus. -We should make peace with our neighbors, forgive those who wronged us and ask forgiveness from those we hurt.

WE ARE INVITED TO LIVE THE MASS

At the end of the Eucharistic Celebration, we are invited to LIVE the Mass. Living the Mass means... offering ourselves to God and keeping ourselves united with Jesus. doing whatever we can to make the people around us happy. we bring Jesus to the people we encounter every day.
