Canaan
City of Jericho
Jericho is considered the oldest known inhabited city in the world.
Jericho was strong and powerful, with walls all around it.
With its walls, Jericho was humanly impenetrable,
unconquerable,
Mission impossible!
But for Joshua and the Israelites Jericho must be destroyed.
Why?
No other way to Canaan, the Promised Land.
GOD’S
PROMISE
JERICHO Canaan
WALLS
PLAN
“Land that flowed with
milk and honey.”
Faith is not blind to the problem, it sees the problem and God’s
presence.
Jericho Strategy (God’s War
Plan)
For six days the army would circle the city
while the priests blew their ram’s horns.
The priests with trumpets went first, then
the priests which carried the Ark of the
Covenant, then the Army.
The only sound would be the sound of the
horns, no one could a speak.
On the seventh day, they would circle the
city seven times in the same manner.
Then when Joshua gave the signal, they
would shout with great shout.
Principle #1
God’s strategy for battle is often
strange, defying all conventional
wisdom.
I Corinthians 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish
things of the world to confound the wise, and God
hath chosen the weak things of the world to
confound the things which are might.
2 Corinthians 4:4 For the weapons of our warfare
are not carnal, but mighty through God to the
pulling down of strong holds.
In the war of our souls, where God and Satan battled
for our destiny, He did not sent millions of angels to
march against the demons of darkness but . . . He
sent His Son to a cross marching a Jerusalem
highway. Jesus died and bought victory for us
with love.
Principle #2
True worship of God involved continued
obedience. A thread of obedience runs through
this entire story:
When Joshua met the angelic
messenger, he obeyed.
The walls fell not because of Joshua, or the trumpets, or the loud shout of the
people. The walls fell as a result of the people’s faith.
All of us at times face walls of impossibility. But the same God that brought
down the walls of Jericho can bring down any wall that you and I face if we
will just believe.
God is not moved by the walls you face, but He is moved by the
faith that you put in Him when you face those walls. It’s our
faith that touches God’s heart.
