CENTRAL VISAYAS: A HISTORIC TOURIST ATTRACTION

Central Visayas is right in the center of the Philippines.

The regions total land area is 14,951.5 sq.kms.

CLIMATE The region has no pronounced climate. It has a short dry season from March to May. The rest of the year is relatively wet.

Its borders are the Visayas sea on the north, Bohol sea on the south, Leyte on the east and Negros Occidental on the west.

Each island in the region has a variety of food, fashion, furniture and fun offerings that are sure to enthrall local and foreign tourists alike products and services that can only be seen in the area, those that are uniquely and distinctly Central Visayas.

Siquijor, with its natural water forms and deep blue sea, is a growing tourist favorite. Bohol, blessed with endemic natural wonders, offers peanut, ube and indigenous raffia products, among others. Negros Oriental successfully balances high technology with native products. Cebu, famous for its global furniture and fashion, combines the comforts of urban living with the rustic appeal of rural life.

The otap is an oval-shaped biscuit. Additionally, its ingredients include the sugar, flour, shortening and most especially, the coconut. All of these are being combined in order to come up with a sweet and yummy delight that is, the otap.

FESTIVAL: SINULOG

Honors the child Jesus, known as the Santo Nio (Holy Child), patron of the city of Cebu

It is a dance ritual that commemorates the Cebuano peoples pagan origin, and their acceptance of Christianity.

The festival features a street parade with participants in bright-colored costumes dancing to the rhythm of drums, trumpets, and native gongs.
