TSM provides a wealth of information, but no user-friendly way to get to it. TSM Administrators spend a great deal of time answering questions, rather than focusing on the health of the TSM environment. Multiple TSM servers become more difficult to manage, since there's no single monitoring point. Some data for the TSM environment is not stored long-term, and the data that is stored is difficult to access using standard tools (ODBC, Excel, etc.) Reporting for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance is difficult, and is often a manual process. Integration of TSM into an enterprise wide monitoring solution (Smarts or OpenView), can provide some data, but getting that data to the users who need it is difficult. Often a handful of administrators are responsible for hundreds of clients backing up to TSM. The clients are probably a mixed bag of operating systems, sizes, schedules and so much more. Administrators handle maintenance, upgrades and testing in addition to ensuring daily back ups occur. Manually checking the logs for each server and correcting any back up problems can take hours to resolve. System Features

Data is stored in an SQL database, accessible via freely available ODBC tools. Template Excel spreadsheets are available, which will allow managers oneclick, detailed graphs of critical TSM server statistics. Automatic monitoring and alerting of TSM database issues. Administrators can configure clients to be automatically removed (either an entire client, or just specified file spaces), on a specific date. Automatic alerts will go out, notifying personnel of the impending deletion. Clients can be configured to automatically cancel active backup sessions at specified times, which can impact user speed over WAN connections.

Quick Back Up Verification

Information is presented in an easy-toread color-coded table. Trouble spots are easily identified letting the administrators focus on solving potential problems, rather than spending time trying to verify that all the machines backed up last night. Clients are broken down by operating system, e.g. your Windows administrators won't waste time looking at Unix servers. Everyone can focus on their own areas without distraction. Details are provided for every client monitored. Clicking the client name drills down into the data.

Client Grouping
