What is water ?
Water is a chemical substance with the chemical

formula H2O. A water molecule contains one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms connected by covalent bonds. Water is a liquid at ambient conditions, but it often coexists on Earth with its solid state, ice, and gaseous state (water vapor or steam).

What is water pollution?

Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged

directly or indirectly into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.
Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in

these bodies of water. In almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to the natural biological communities.

How much of water is available?

Water covers 70.9% of the Earth surface, and is vital

for all known forms of life. On Earth, 96.5% of the planet's water is found mostly in oceans; 1.7% in groundwater; 1.7% in glaciers and the ice caps of Antarctica and Greenland.

Forms of water
Surface water:- Surface water is present

on surface of earth. (In lakes, rivers, streams or oceans) Underground water:- Underground water is present inside the earth. (In wells, springs)

Water needed for agriculture

Agriculture sector is the major user of water . At the global level , percentage of water used for different purposes is as follows: Agriculture 70% Industry 25% Domestic use 5% In India ,percentage of water used for different sectors is as follows: Agriculture 90% Industry 7% Domestic use 3%

Conservation of water
Misuse r wastage of this precious resource is to be

avoided. Save water campaigns are needed to make people aware of the dangers of water scarcity. Controlling floods by interlinking of rivers. Treating domestic and municipal waste water to make it fit for industry and agriculture. Constructing reservoirs and dams. Harvesting of rain water.

Rain water harvesting

Rain water harvesting is a method of direct collection of rainwater from rooftops of our houses as well as of industries.
The rainwater collected can be stored for direct use or can be allowed to reach the groundwater. Once the water reaches the groundwater, water table is raised.
