Functions of Coupling transformer

• Couples output of first stage to the input of the second

stage or to the load

• Isolates D.C. between stages

• Provides impedance matching

Circuit Details

• Coupling transformer couples the a.c output signal from

output of first stage to the input of the next stage.

• Output transformer couples the output signal to the load.

• Resistors R1,R2 and RE provide biasing and stabilization.

• CE is the emitter bypass capacitor.

EE-305.71 7
Principle of operation of transformer coupled
Amplifier

• Due to low voltage and power gain of RC coupled

amplifier the transformer coupled amplifier is preferred.

• Transformer coupling is generally employed when the

load is small.

• The transformer coupling is mainly used for power

amplification.

• Transformer is more efficient in providing d.c isolation

EE-305.71 8
Operation
• The input signal V in is amplified by T1.

• The amplified out put of T1 appears across Primary

winding of coupling transformer.

• The induced secondary voltage is applied to the base of

the second stage transistor.

• The second stage further amplifies the signal.

• The output is taken across the secondary of output

transformer.

• Overall gain is increased.
