A day in the life of Mr.

Lucky
Opportunity not every time knocks.

Side effects of technology
 Just like the medicines we have side
effects of technologies too.
 No technologies can be 100%
compatible with the humans.
 This case study deals with the side
effects of the technologies which we
either neglect or overlook as we have
no other options.

2
Case study:Mr. Lucky / Mr. Unlucky
 He is almost unlucky so far as to get
right things happening at the wrong
time or perhaps the vice-versa.
 Background – Mr. Lucky is working
for a software firm as a trainee
engineer.

3
The day…..
 Mr. Lucky is driving his bike amidst the
busy traffic then suddenly jhalak
dikhlaja(his ring tone)—his mobile rings.
 He stops his bike to attend the call just to
find out that it is from the service provider
about the new xciting offers.
 He then feels annoyed and start driving
again then again jhalak dikhlaja---this time
he doesn’t pick it up and it was from his
prospective customer where he is going,
who rings him to notify that he has to go
out for urgent work.

4
 He then returned back to his office
obviously with no results. He however buys
a handsfree.
 While giving an important presentation
infront of his boss again..jhalak dikhlaja…
 It was from a outstation number so he
picked up just to find out that it was a
wrong number.
 He then switches off his mobile and his
father urgently needs to talk to him but
finds his mobile switched off.
5
 After office he goes to meet his girlfriend at
the mall.
 While he was trying to have a good time –
jhalak dikhlaja..
 His father again calls him up and scolded
him for not calling him back as he has left
message in his voice-mail. He comes to
know of the fact that his mother is in
hospital,so rush to hospital as soon as
possible.
6
 Returning very late from the hospital he
retires to his bed as he has only 3 hours
left for rest.
 After two hours…jhalak dikhalaja.
 He picks up his phone only to find out that
it was from his friend abroad who has
called just “yunhi”.
 Now our Mr. Lucky realises that because of
his luck or because of his mobile he is Mr.
Unlucky.

7
 Every year how many people die on the road due to
answering phone calls while driving.
 Why do we see signs like “please don’t drive while talking on
your mobile ,traffic safety week,etc.”
 You are sleeping after a very very long work and suddenly
your mobile rings up and found out that its just a normal call
could be avoided.
 While busy in a important meeting if your mobile rings up.
 If you don’t pick up it goes in the voice mail and what if its
really very urgent and the user wants to connect to you.
 How many peoples do really uses voice mails.
 Does the technology is really adding values to our life and
making our lives easier but what about the side-effects as
visible in case of Mr. Lucky.
 Does luck has to play a great role in utilising the technology
fully. If not then what should Mr. Lucky do to get once again
lucky.

Solution-voicemail
 Well the solution of the above problems lies and present already in
voicemail.
 However technically voicemail is a single way communication
between the caller and the mobile user. The caller can leave his
message and get back sometimes after.
 Voicemail, a modified form of our answering machine used in fixed
line telephone.
 In fixed line telephone only single way communication is enough.
 Mobiles should be as compatible with the user as the users is.

9
Voicemail-(service provider)
 Actual process :- There are two ways possible to do this.
 Process one includes the situation in which the user can sms to
us (service provider) at a separate number. Now if the caller
recieves a call from a mobile then that sms can be sent to the
caller , whereas if the caller is doing from a fixed line then a
prerecorded voice of our customer service executive will be played
,for eg.- Mr. X is driving right now call him after an hour. If your
message is really urgent then call him again.
 Now this process happens twice and if the caller need urgent
connection then the call is connected directly to the user and now
the user will come to know that some urgent call is there.
 In this way two step filtering is observed between the user and the
caller and hence the user has already separated the urgent calls
from the unnecessary calls.
 In this process if the user want to activate his mobile before the
stated time then again he can sms or call at the same number
above. However if the user doesn’t activate his mobile then it will
be activated automatically after the set time.

10
 Process two :- There will be preset time gap
and the user can choose between them and
get it activated.
 In among the different profile the user can
choose the one he required and then activate
it.
 And then same process took place as process
one.

 Hence now the compatibility between the

user and the mobile is largely increased.
11
voicemail …..(mobile)
 The software must be adding one extra feature like callmate
and in this software there will be different status of the user
already preset as well as compatible with the ability to
make one.
 The predefined status will include a preset message like
right now im driving call me after 2 hours and a
prerecorded voice of user.
 The user gets a call from a mobile. Then the call mate will
first intercept the call and sends the caller sms that right
now the user is busy( as per set by the user) an call him
after the time limit set by the user. However in this the time
limit will vary according to the mobile clock. Suppose if one
hour is already passed after the preset status then the
caller will get sms notification as the user is busy call him
after one hour.
 At the end of time the user will get a notification that his 2
hours is expired he can return to normal. However if he
doesn’t attend the reminder then it will gets increased by 10
minutes and so the sms will be. 12
 The user gets a call from landline. Then the user with
prerecorded voice in the memory as “ hi ,I m busy right
now call me after 2 hours and right now the time is 3.00 pm
at setting this status”
 And same as the expiry of 2 hours it will send a reminder
and if he doesn’t attend then it will get increased by 10
minutes.
 If the user gets sms ( especially for normal user don’t
having this software) then it will pass as without alarm or
vibration with a little beep sound.
 In this if both the user have this call mate software
downloaded then he can send via normal mode or urgent
mode.
 In normal mode the user will be alerted by just one beep
the incoming of sms. However if the user sends via urgent
mode then the alert will be normal message tone which he
has set it already.

13
Tip of an iceberg…

14
 Call anywhere to anyone in the world
absolutely free.
 No loss of precious data when the
mobile is lost.
 Gradually we will be progressing into
the world where we will not be
dependent on the service provider i.e.
Airtel or Hutch.

15
Detailed process…
 Software similar to Skype would be
downloadable to mobiles easily.
 Then connecting to PC for internet
and talking wherever.
 Finally mobile will be landing up as a
PC for an user and this software will
become the operating system for
mobiles.
