HOW COMPUTER MODELS ARE HEPLING US PREPARE FOR NATURAL DISASTERS : Computer models developed by Los Alamos
National Laboratory scientists is helping emergency planners prepare for hurricanes and other natural disasters.
The

technology, which analyzes the critical components and vulnerabilities of utilities, has become an important tool for the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Assurance and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to lab officials.

USE OF COMPUTERS IN CYCLONE DETECTION.

Tropical

cyclones form from relatively common tropical weather systems, referred to as cloud clusters. These groups of loosely organized, deep cumulus clouds occur in a variety of tropical weather situations, but in the Atlantic the most common pattern for storm genesis has historically been intensification of tropical waves that regularly move off the west coast of Africa during the Atlantic hurricane season. USE OF COMPUTERS IN EARTHQUAKE DETECTION :-

Newer

models of laptops manufactured by companies like Apple and Lenovo contain accelerometers motion sensors meant to detect whether the computer has been dropped. If the computer falls, the hard drive will automatically switch off to protect the users data.

USE OF COMPUTERS IN FLOOD DETECTION

Flood

detection ensures that an attacker cannot perform a attack by flooding the MOM server in your Client Security infrastructure. Such an attack would require compromising a MOM agent or spoofing a client computer. detection monitors the number of events that client computers send to the MOM server during the past four 4/29/12

USE OF COMPUTERS IN TSUNAMI DETECTION :A tsunami warning center must be able to process and analyze seismic and sea level data to detect the occurrence of a tsunami and forecast its impact. National Tsunami Warning Centers (NTWC) and Regional Tsunami Watch Providers (RTWP) require a variety of hardware, software, computer applications and programs, and communication capabilities to support and maintain tsunami detection and prediction capacity. 4/29/12
