ETAP is a multi study tool and it has several modules which includes: load flow AC and DC, short circuit, transient stability, optimal load flow, cable pulling, grounding, etc. The program can be set on edit and study mode In the EDIT MODE you could add the different components from the library (caution there are two libraries which are displayed on the right hand side bars a DC and AC components Once you chose a study to run in this mode the components library will disappear and you cannot add new components from here only from the EDIT model. In this mode you also have access to the crystal reports Case selector allows you to setup variations from your base case

BUS Click to edit Master subtitle style (AC) enter a bus drag and drop from the AC components library To
You only need to fill the Info tab section, if you are running a load flow study Different from PSLF the bus type is determined by what is connected to it ,e.g., if a generator is connected to it based on the generator page setting it will be identified as swing or PV bus. When a load and not generator is connected it will automatically classify it as PQ bus Data Required Bus Name In service/ Out of Service Type of connection Initial voltage

TRANSFORMER (info Click to edit Master subtitle style tab) enter a bus drag and drop from the AC components library To

You need to enter data on the Info and rating tab only if running a load flow Different from PSLF the bus type is determined by what is connected to it ,e.g., if a generator is connected to it based on the generator page setting it will be identified as swing or PV bus. When a load and not generator is connected it will automatically classify it as PQ bus

Data Required ID In Service /Out of Service Connection Standard (by default ANSI always choose it unless running a study based on European standard)

TRANSFORMER (rating Click to edit Master tab)

If the X/R ratio is not given choose typical if left as zero you will get an error message as this ration cannot be infinite. In PSLF you could leave it as zero by not entering the real losses If you are not given the transformer impedance the a typical value may also be chosen

Required Data MVA base %Z (if X/R not given use typical)

TRANSMISSION LINE Click to edit Master subtitle style (info tab) a transmission line drag and drop from the AC components To enter

library

You need to enter data on the Info and impedance tab only, if running a load flow

Data Required ID In Service / Out of Service Connection Length (if you user defined impedance is chosen leave default values)

is not available to edit)

You need to enter data on the Info and impedance tab only, if running a load flow

Data Required Positive Sequence Impedance (enter R-T1 and R-T2 equal) Choose user defined Units (leave as default)

To enter a generator drag and drop from the AC components library You need to enter data on the Info and rating tab only, if running a load flow The rating library entry mode changes based on the configuration mode chosen (Swing or Voltage Control)

Data Required ID In Service / Out of Service Operation Mode (Swing , Voltage Control)

If the generator is set to work in voltage control mode, under the generator category table you may only modify the % voltage, Real Power output (MW), Qmax and Qmin; (therefore known as PV bus) Under rating section only need to enter the MVA, kV and %pf all other fields are self populated

Data Required kV base MVA base %pf %V (schedule voltage) 4/29/12 P (schedule MW) Qmax (+MVAR) Qmin (-MVAR)
