First

CWG in 1930 in Hamilton in Canada, was known as British Empire Games. 11 Countries participated In 1966, they were re-named as British Commonwealth Games CWG held every four years Has been conducted un-interrupted till date, except during World War II (1939-1945).

19th CWG 2010 venue was Delhi, India Took place between 3rd to 14th Oct, 2010. This was biggest CWG till date with 7580 athletes from 71 countries competed in 21 sports & 272 events. 1st time CWG held in India and 2nd in Asia (Malaysia in 1998) Official mascot was Shera and Official song was Jiyo Utho Bado Jeeto.

There were 71 participating nations at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Fijis suspended from the Commonwealth, as it has been banned from participating in the Games.

 Delhi

Development Authority (DDA) had auctioned land for constructing hotels to accommodate tourist s during the CWG,2010. 33 hotels were constructed 10 hotels constructed before the Games. Some hotels during CWG include:Janpath Hotel Hotel Ramada Plaza Hotel Radisson Marina Taj Palace Hotel Hotel ITC Maurya Hotel Grand Park.

A total of 20 training venues were used in the Games. Accommodation and training for athletes from 23 September to 18 October 2010. Located along the east bank of the River Yamuna, was spread over an area of 63.5 hectares (157 acres). Residential Zone - 14 blocks, 34 towers 1,168 air-conditioned flats

A four-lane flyway, 2.2 km stretch from Lodhi Road to trans-Yamuna, linking the Games Village to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was constructed which reduced the traveling time between the village and the Stadium to 6 minutes.

Promoted campaign INCREDIBLE INDIA Around 2 million foreign tourists and 3.5 million tourists from different parts of India arrived in Delhi for Common Wealth Games 2010 Indian Tourism ministry planed to organize four shopping events in three states of the country

people were employed by the government on a daily wage basis (skilled and unskilled). The government payed about Rs. 75 to Rs. 100 per hour (about $2) for an unskilled laborer and about Rs. 150 (about $3) per hour for a skilled laborer for eight hours of work per day.

CWG

2010 was most expensive ever.

 India won 101 medals in total, including 38 Gold medals,

enabling it to finish the Games at 2nd position behind Australia and just ahead of England. World-class athletics infrastructure within the nation, expose audiences to top-level competition, and encourage the youth to Come out and play. Building a sporting culture that looks beyond cricket is seen as an important task for a country which won its first ever individual Olympic gold medal only in Beijing 2008.
