ENVIRONMENT
POLLUTION
 Pollution, Contamination of earth’s
environment with materials that
interfere with human health, the
quality of life, or the natural
functioning of ecosystems.

AIR POLLUTION
• Revolution of the 19th centuries however, air
pollution became a major problem. The air that
we breathe contains many impurities like dust,
smoke, harmful gases and other particulars,
which are very harmful for all living beings.
 Causes of air pollution :-
 Dust gets raised by strong winds, movement of
vehicals, sweeping of floors and roads etc cause
air pollution.
 Smoke of powerhouses, factories and vehicals.
 Cigarette smoking.
 Sneezing and coughing.

WATER POLLUTION
• The pollution of rivers and streams
with chemical contaminants has
become one of the most critical
environmental problems of the 20th
century.
• Sewage, industrial wastes, and
agricultural chemicals such as
fertilizers and pesticides are the
main causes of water pollution.

NEXT
NOISE POLLUTION
• Unwanted sound, or noise, such as that
produced by airplanes, traffic, or
industrial machinery, is considered a
form of pollution
• It can cause hearing loss, stress, high
blood pressure, sleep loss, distraction,
and lost productivity.

BACK TO INDEX
SOIL POLLUTION
• Soil is a mixture of mineral, plant, and
animal materials that forms during a long
process that may take thousands of years.
It is necessary for most plant growth and is
essential for all agricultural production. Soil
pollution is a buildup of toxic chemical
compounds, salts, pathogens (disease-
causing organisms), or radioactive materials
that can affect plant and animal life.

BACK TO INDEX
SOLID POLLUTION
• Solid wastes are unwanted solid
materials such as garbage, paper,
plastics and other synthetic materials,
metals, and wood
• Moreover, waste from developed
countries typically contains a high
percentage of synthetic materials that
take longer to decompose than the
primarily biodegradable waste
materials of developing countries.

INDUSTRIAL WATER
POLLUTION
• Industrial pollutants that run instreams,
rivers, or lakes can have serious effects on
wildlife, plants, and humans. The major
water pollutants are chemical, biological, or
physical materials that degrade water
quality. Pollutants can be classed into eight
categories, each of which presents its own
set of hazards.
 Petrolium products
 Pesticides and herbicides
 Heavy metals
