Pollution:-

Contamination of Earth’s environment with

materials that interfere with human health,
the quality of life, or the natural functioning
of ecosystems
Impacts of pollution

2. Imbalance 4ecosystem
3. Creates occupational diseases
4. Depletion of ozone layers
5. Adulterate environment and atmosphere
6. Global warming
7. Production of hazardous wastes i.e.,
industrial, household, medical etc.
TYPES OF POLLUTION
Air pollution
• Greenhouse Effect:-
• the capacity of certain gases in the
atmosphere to trap heat emitted from the
Earth’s surface, thereby insulating and
warming the Earth.
• Depletion of Ozone layer:-
• Due to Depletion of Ozone layer
ultraviolet rays are allowed to enter the
earth atmosphere, which causes skin
cancer to living being
• Acid Rain:-
• pollutants build up in the atmosphere,
sulfur and nitrogen oxides are converted
into acids that mix with rain.
• Global Warming:-
• increase in the average temperature of the
atmosphere, oceans, and landmasses of
Earth.
Water pollution
• Decay of Algae:-
• The water body may then become choked
with decaying algae, which severely
depletes the oxygen supply
• Effects aquatic life:-
• cause the death of fish and other aquatic
life
• Erosion:-
• the wearing away of topsoil by wind and
rain, also contributes to water pollution.
Soil pollution
• Soil Management:-
• Unhealthy soil management methods
have seriously degraded soil quality,
caused soil pollution, and enhanced
erosion.

• Tillage:-
• Excessive tillage may result in the
deterioration of soil structure
Solid wastes
• Solid wastes are unwanted solid materials
such as garbage, paper, plastics and
other synthetic materials, metals, and
wood.
• Solid Waste Disposal:- disposal of
normally solid or semisolid materials,
resulting from human and animal activities
• Rubbish: non decomposable wastes,
either combustible or noncombustible
• Ashes:
• residues of the combustion of solid fuels
• Industrial wastes:
• such materials as chemicals, paints, and
sand
Chemical Wastes
• Agricultural wastes: farm animal manure
and crop residues.
• Mining wastes: slag heaps and coal refuse
piles
Noise Pollution
• Unwanted sound, or noise, such as that
produced by airplanes, traffic, or industrial
machinery, is considered a form of
pollution
• It can cause
• hearing loss
• Stress
• high blood pressure
• sleep loss, distraction, and lost
productivity.
Controlling pollution
• Forestation
• Recycling
• Protecting wild life
• catalytic converters in automobiles and
various kinds of filters and scrubbers in
industrial plant
• Proper drainages
