SOCIETY & DRAMA

Drama can be used to illuminate & give life to moral concepts , codes of
behaviour ,the lives of people in other times & other places. In short it
mirrors society & sometimes proves to be an effective tool for social change
. Street plays or ‘Nukkad Nataks’ are such tools . They do not offer
readymade solutions to the problems faced by society . However, they
provoke people to think.

The beauty of street plays lies in the fact that they can be
performed anywhere anytime . Moreover, props , stage , make-up , costume
etc are not needed for presentation. All one need is an audience .

The ‘ street play’ is an offshoot of drama . It is a perfect

means of education through entertainment.

The students of M.G.D.SCHOOL put up a street play

highlighting the problem of ‘bird flu’ & gave the message of ‘Eat healthy’ stay
healthy’. The play also exhorted the people to think & believe in ‘Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals’.The street play was well received by everyone & it was
highly rewarding when people wanted to know more about the issue after
the presentation .
