Evolution of HRM
HRM practices emerged during the industrial revolution in the 18th century when factories employed a large number of people to operate machines. Recruitment, payment and training became specialized activities, which required specialized people to do them for the organizations. . Kathryn McKee, has identified four periods in the evolution of HRM

Mechanistic period This is the period from the 1900s 1950s when the main focus was on administrative functions such as recruiting, dismissing, paying, dealing with labour unions and keeping records. Efficiency was more important than human relation Legalistic period This is the 1960s 1970s. Typical HRM functions included:

1)

Personnel and administration 2) Industrial Relation 3) Labour Welfare Organistic Period - This is 1980s. It focuses that systematic attention to human resources was the only way to increase organizational effectiveness. This awareness created the stage for the direct involvement of top managers and line managers in the HRM process. Strategic Period This is 1990s. In this period, the international market entered into the indian market with innovative and competitive ideas. As a result of which the Indian companies were forced to adapt those changes in their HR practices. Increasing demands for skilled performers force the companies to recruit, select and retain skilled & capable employees.

Future of HRM
Human resource management is a field of management that handles the strategic approach towards management of an organizations resources, specifically the human resources. The future of HRM in India is very bright indeed because there are an increasing number of human resource related jobs such as advanced performance appraisal, Human Resource information system, employee involvement, corporate governance and job satisfaction. Therefore the number of young people looking for job in this sector is also rising.

The studys essential finding was that the majority of CEOs believe that HR is making exceptional contributions in strategic areas, including talent management, succession planning, engagement, recruitment and retention. And, they believe HR has done a good job working as a partner to CEOs during what, for most, has been a tough couple of years. As much as CEOs are looking to their senior HR executives to continue to consult on the key challenges ahead including managing across generations, continuous change management and communications in the age of social mediathey overwhelmingly expect that senior HR executives will couple their technical HR and people skills with a much deeper understanding of the real business issues. As one CEO stated, if HR wants to be more valuable to the business, they need to map out HR organization strategy to the business strategy.

Students who are looking for a job in human resource management will usually have to do an MBA in human resources. This will allow them to get a job in a wide variety of organizations such as financial firms ( banks)and firms that are not related to finance (IT companies and insurance companies).
