* History
Warner Bros was founded in 1918, by 4 brothers: Jack Warner, Harry Warner, Albert Warner and Sam Warner. The 3 elder brothers began in movie theatre business (cinema) where they acquired a movie projector which they used to show films in the mining towns of Pennsylvania and Ohio. Their first theatre was opened in New Castle, Pennsylvania in 1903; this was called The Cascade. It was then turned into a shopping, dining and entertainment complex honouring its Warner Bros heritage. In 2010, all of the businesses have closed and the centre is now for sale.

* Subsidiary companies
Warner Bros. Studios, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Animation, Warner Home Video, New Line Cinema, TheWB.com, DC Comics And Warner Music Group

However, despite owning all of those companies, Warner Bros is still a product of Time Warner which also owns Boomerang, Cartoon Network and The CW Network (half owned and actually shared with WB)

* Subsidiary companies
One of the biggest subsidiaries for WB is Warner Bros Music Group, representing artists such as Avenged Sevenfold, Bruno Mars, JLS and Linkin Park. They also own several record label companies such as 20th Century Records and 1-2-3-4 Go! Records.

As well as producing its own shows (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Two and Half Men and The Flintstones), Warner Bros. Television also produces programs for other networks like Shameless.
New Line Cinema are a final major subsidiary company for WB. They have created filsm like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Final Destination and Elf.

Technology

Warner Bros. was one of the first films who had synchronized sound (known at the time as talking pictures, or talkies). With Sam urging that their films had this feature, in 1925 the others finally agreed to have it. However, Harry didnt agree with it and wondered famously Who the hell wants to hear actors talk? The studio had suffered a reported net loss of $333, 413, by February 1926. Harry agreed to have synchronized sound, as long as it was for background music. They all then signed a contract with the sound engineer company Western Electric and established Vitaphone. Vitaphone then began to make films with music and sound effects in 1926. It works by charging people 30 Facebook credits, the equivalent of $3 (1.85), to rent the film from Warner Bros . They then have 48 hours in which to watch it. Batman: The Dark Knight was the first film streamed in 2008 using this service.
