LESSON II

Quality Of Education Through Educational

Technology
TWO DIFFERENT PERCEPTIONS OF
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Technology Of Education

Technology In Education
TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION
 Is
the popular impression of
audiovisual aids.

Two Phases of Technology in Education:

 Hardware Phase

 Software Phase
TECHNOLOGY OF EDUCATION
 Refers to the technological advancement of
education.

 The development of the teaching learning

process as a whole.

 An application of innovative strategies,

methods, approach and techniques.
ROLES OF EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY
 Increasing the quality of learning or the
degree of mastery.

 Decreasing the time taken for learners to

obtain desired learning objectives.

 Increasing the efficiency of teachers in terms

of numbers of learning taught without
reducing the quality of learning.

 Reducing educational cost without affecting

educational quality.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
 Educational Technology is part of the total
educational process.

 The aim of educational technology is to

enhance the teaching and learning process
for both the teacher and the learner.

 The transfer of knowledge between teacher

and learner is not unilateral.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:

 It is important to consider the equality of

teaching and learning if the aim is to
maintain a sense of involvement in
technologically-based activities.
DEFINITIONS FROM THE TWO
ASPECTS OF EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY

 Educational Technology is the development,

application and evaluation of systems,
techniques and aids to improve the process
of human learning. (Council for Educational
Technology for the United Kingdom)
DEFINITIONS FROM THE TWO
ASPECTS OF EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY

 Educational Technology is the application of

scientific knowledge about learning and the
conditions of learning to improve the
effectiveness and efficiency of teaching and
training. In the absence of scientifically
established principles, educational
technology implements techniques of
empirical testing to improve learning
situations. (national Centre for Programmed
learning, UK)
DEFINITIONS FROM THE TWO
ASPECTS OF EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY

 Educational Technology is a systematic way

of designing, implementing and evaluating
the total process of learning and teaching in
terms of specific objectives, based on
research in human learning and
communication and employing a combination
of human and non-human resources to bring
about more effective instruction.
(Commission on Instructional Technology,
USA)
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
 All three definitions stress primarily function
of educational technology as improving the
efficiency of the process of learning.

 Each of the definitions implies a technology

of educational interpretation of the role of
educational technology.

 Successful educational technology has to be

flexible enough to react to new knowledge
about the process of human learning and
also to new developments in teaching and
learning approaches and methods.
