SEX TOURISM
A very lucrative industry that spans the globe. DEFINITION OF TERMS
CHILD
Any person below the age of 18 years. Children who have reached the age of 13 but have not yet reached age 18 may be referred to on occasion as youth or young people, while still being included in the broad definition of children.
Contact offences - touching and fondling, through to sexual penetration Non-contact offences - verbal sexual harassment, indecent exposure, peeping and exposure to pornography.
CHILD PROSTITUTION
The use of a child in sexual activities for remuneration or any other form of consideration. The term child prostitution, however, may not be something that young people subject to commercial sexual exploitation may identify with (young people may instead identify with terms such as sex for survival and sex for favors).
CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
Any representation, by whatever means, of a child engaged in real or simulated explicit sexual activities or any representation of the sexual parts of a child for primarily sexual purposes.
TRAFFICKING
In the context of children, trafficking means the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of a child within or across borders for the purpose of exploitation. (Exploitation includes, at a minimum, the exploitation or the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs).
