DEFINITION OF TERMS

CHILD
Any person below the age of 18 years. Children who have reached the age of 13 but have not yet reached age 18 may be referred to on occasion as youth or young people, while still being included in the broad definition of children.

When an adult or someone bigger or older than the child uses power or authority over the child to involve the child in sexual activity.

It includes child prostitution, child pornography, trafficking in children for sexual purposes, child sex tourism and child marriage for the purposes of sexual abuse or sexual exploitation.

The term child prostitution, however, may not be something that young people subject to commercial sexual exploitation may identify with (young people may instead identify with terms such as sex for survival and sex for favors).
