WHAT IS A WEBQUEST?
A WebQuest is a scaffolded learning structure that uses links to essential resources on the World Wide Web and an authentic task to motivate students investigation of a central, open-ended question, development of individual expertise and participation in a final group process that attempts to transform newly acquired information into a more sophisticated understanding.

How does a WebQuest work?

1.- Provide
background information about the topic. 2.- Task: Description of what the learner will produce by the end of the activity, and also describes the tools they will be working on.

3.- Process: Give steps by step description of the process that you need to fallow in order to achieve the main objective. Also provide links to internet sites. 4.- Evaluation, the way you will be graded. 5.- Conclusion: Encourage reflection about the process.

WHY WEBQUESTS?
BECAUSE STUDENTS INCREASE:
Motivation: WebQuests use several strategies to increase student motivation. First, WebQuests use a central question that honestly needs answering Developing Thinking Skills: One of the main (and often neglected) features of any WebQuest is that students tackle questions that prompt higher level thinking. Certainly, the Web can be used as a source for simple information retrieval, but this misses its power and short-changes students.

Cooperative Learning: As has already been mentioned, in WebQuests students take on roles within a small student group and this tends to promote motivation. In addition, because the WebQuest targets learning about large, complex or controversial topics, it's probably not realistic to expect each student to master all of its aspects.
