WiMAX – ideal for Vertical Markets (“Verticals”)
WiMAX WiFi
Designed for Wireless Access Designed for Wireless LAN
Maintains fixed data rates even when number Data rate level dramatically decreases when the
of CPEs gets higher number of CPEs gets higher (due to collisions
between CPEs) – see graph in the next slide
Service Level can be maintained Service Level cannot be maintained
for each CPE for each CPE
Built in QoS for Video, Voice and Data QoS is not built in the protocol
Defined for licensed Defined for unlicensed bands only
and unlicensed bands (Using it in licensed bands is in fact proprietary)
Available in many bands: 700MHz to 5.x GHz Available mainly in 2.4, 4.9 and 5.x GHz

Airspan - ideal for Verticals: Small Spectrum Allocations
24
Airspan’s Compact and Pico Base Stations: ideal for Verticals
• Verticals (unlike large operators) often do not have the facilities to install a
multi-sector split-architecture Base Station
• Verticals often have small number of CPEs per site therefore prefer a BS
optimized for single-sector use
• MacroMAXe is a compact Base Station – ideal for Verticals
– Optimized single sector solution (or three-sector solution)
– All-in-one all-outdoor; 2*37 dBm / 2*40 dBm and 4Rx; 16e
– No need for any indoor unit, no need for shelter and/or air conditioning
– Romania: using MacroMAXe 3.65 GHz for Border Control
– Austria: using MacroMAXe 3.45 GHz for Monitoring and Control of Transformers and for
Meter Reading
• MicroMAX is in fact a Pico Base Station – ideal for Verticals
– Optimized single sector solution (or multiple sector solution)
– Mainly outdoor (small indoor unit feeding it); 27 dBm / 22 dBm; 16d
25
Airspan’s Customized MRT: designed for Verticals
26
Airspan’s Robust Solutions: ideal for Verticals
• Airspan has a variety of CPEs and various power solutions for CPEs such as:
– SDA which powers the outdoor ProST comes as AC or DC variant
– There is an “outdoor PSU” that can power the outdoor ProST-WiFi
– MiMAX-Pro is powered from standard PoE
– ProST needs simply power on some pins and Ethernet connectivity on other pins
28
Airspan’s architecture is very useful for Verticals
• Unlike large operators, Verticals sometimes would prefer avoid the use of
core network servers such as the ASN GW and “fancy AAA servers”
– May prefer to use the fixed budget to buy additional radio equipment…
• Airspan’s 16e solutions support a special “Stand Alone” mode for fixed
application
– No need for ASN GW
– Free Radius as AAA solution – planned for release 9.5
29
Airspan’s VLAN support is very useful for Verticals
30
Airspan’s Scheduler is ideal for Verticals
