Telecom Industry
] The telecom industry plays an important role in the world economy .The global
revenues in 2008 were $ 4 trillion, expected to grow at a steep 11% p.a. CAGR over
the next 2 years.

] Almost half ($ 1.7 trillion) of telecom revenues accrue from service revenue, and
analysts believe this is expected to grow significantly to $ 2.7 trillion by 2013.

] India currently has 550 million telecom subscribers, translating to a Tele-density of

46%.

] According to Business Monitor International, India is currently adding 8-10 million

mobile subscribers every month.

] It is estimated that by 2012, around half the country's population will own a mobile
phone. This would translate into 612 million mobile subscribers, accounting for a
Tele-density of around 51%.

] The major Indian players in this sector are Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar and
Reliance Communications.
ërowth Potential
] The Indian telecom industry has witnessed a significant upswing and is
presently on a high speed growth path, enjoying a growth rate of 45 % p.a.,
among the highest in the World.

] As economic growth continues at a stable 8% p.a., as Indian customers

continue to embrace the currently under-penetrated mobile technology, and as
regulatory policy continues to favor investment in the sector, this growth path
is likely to continue.

] India's telecom service revenue was $ 30 billion in 2008, and Ernst and Young
analysts believe it is projected to almost double to $ 55 billion by 2012, thereby
contributing over 6% to the GDP.

] In a saturated telecommunications market, you can no longer rely on new

mobile phone customers as a significant profit center. Todayǯs competitive
conditions call instead for raising per-user revenue, via new services and
heightened customer loyalty.

Training at Vodafone
] Training at Vodafone was a very good experience for me. They provided a
very good working atmosphere. It helped me in gaining knowledge about
the telecom industry.

] It helped me in understanding the process of work, working in MS-EXCEL,

meeting the timelines, and gaining experience about working in a
corporate sector.

] My work there consisted of some daily and monthly usage reports

downloading & processing which concluded in revenue information,
converting the data into MIS and transfer of etopup balance to retailers
against various schemes.

] The reports namely- Inroamer and Outroamer reports, Pre_21, Pre_D50,

Pre_13, Pre_D54, Pre_02, Differential Commission reports & Recon

Research Methodology
R

The descriptive research design is be adopted for this project.

R
The respondents were personally contacted with well-prepared sequentially
arranged questions.

The study sample constitutes of 50 respondents.

³Non-probability Sampling´ is used and samples are drawn using the

RANDOM SAMPLING method.

The data used is of both Primary and Secondary nature.

The Primary data was collected through questionnaire. The employees and
trainees from Vodafone were approached to get the questionnaire answered.

Ônalysis and Conclusion
The data that are collected from the questionnaire will undergo
statistical revisions. The data collected will be interpreted using
statistical tools and techniques.

The statistical tools that will be used for analyzing the collected
data will be Measures of Central Tendency, Pictorial Representation of
Data and Tools for Hypothesis Testing.

MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY:

This will include calculations of MEAN, MEDIAN & MODE

 â Sum of Observations â ȳ fx

No. of Observations ȳf
â ((N+1)/2)th term ( for individual series)

 â l1+ (m Ȃ c) x i ( for continuous series)

f
where,
l1 â lower limit of the class in which median lies
i â length of the median class
f â frequency of the median class (i.e. l2-l1)
c â cumulative frequency of the class just before the median class.
m â (N/2)th item
(Middle value of all observations after arranging in ascending order)

  â l1+ (( f1 Ȃ f0)/(2f1- f0 Ȃf2))

where:
l1 â lower limit of modal class
f1 â frequency of the modal class
f2â frequency of the class following the modal class
f0âfrequency of the class preceding modal class
i â magnitude or the width fo the modal class
(The value which is repeated maximum number of times is said to be modal
item or mode)

 Ô

 Ô Ô Ô
Each question in the questionnaire will be analysed individually through
Pie-chart or Bar Graph presentation and the conclusions will be drawn on the
basis of information collected and the charts.
For example:

EXAMPLE 1:
Q) WHAT IS YOUR AVERAGE MONTHLY BILLING AT PRESENT?
&
Q) è AT èAS YOUR AVERAGE MOBILE BILLING AN YEAR AGO?

Now for the analysis of the questions, its graphical representation in the
form of Bar Chart will be made, showing the comparison between the two
questions and conclusions will be drawn on its basis.

Conclusion:
Since the mode is Dz2dz which is Dzpresentdz in the options; it means
maximum number of people say that they are using Vodafone
connection at present.
From the pie chart we come to a conclusion that-
È only 2% of respondents say that they were using the connection before.
È 80% of them are using at present.
È 12% are seeking to use in future &
È 6% says they will never use the connection.

The same method will be used for the analysis of all the
other questions individually and then the conclusion will be drawn
based on the results of the PIE-CHART, MEASURES OF CENTRAL
TENDENCY, and based on the individual calculation of the
questions, the hypothesis testing will be done using the chi-square test
method.
