Dr.

Zakir Husain once said “India is an old nation

of young people”. He always emphasized on the
role of youth in the development of the country.
With same aim we would like to through light on
the role of youth , it’s problems & their solutions
through the medium of this presentation.
Present Scenario

Youth Problems

Solutions
India's Population: 1.07 billion
Sex Ratio of Population: 930 women per 1000 men
Literacy rate : 65.38 % Males : 75.96 %
Females : 54.28 %
Maternal Mortality rate: 540 deaths per 1,00,000 live
births
Total Fertility Rate : 2.9 births per woman
55% of population below 25 years of age
World’s ¼ th youth are indians
India's youth have an enormous impact: on the economy, on
companies hoping to sell them products, on the media, and on
the culture. Unlike previous generations, today's youth are not
obsessed with the ins and outs of politics. Thus the current
election, which pits the ruling Indian national congress
against the BJP has failed to ignite the passions of the young.
''Today, even if Parliament blew up, no one from this
generation would notice,'' says Rama Bijapurkar, a marketing
consultant. ''It has little relevance for them.'' Liberalization's
children also differ from their conservative, insular parents in
that they proudly mix Indian values with Western packaging.
They enjoy wearing saris and still admire Mahatma Gandhi.
But they also like wearing blue jeans, drinking fizzy sodas, and
watching MTV .
This generational shift in attitudes is all the more
important because this group is growing so rapidly.
Some 47% of India's current 1 billion population is
under the age of 20, and teenagers among them
number about 160 million. Already, they wield $2.8
billion worth of discretionary income, and their
families spend an additional $3.7 billion on them
every year. By 2015, Indians under 20 will make up
55% of the population--and wield proportionately
higher spending power.
Youth are considered very important for the development of the
country. But due to scarcity of resources it becomes difficult for a
nation to fully exploit its human resources. This results in
unemployment. It is a sheer wastage of manpower. The problem of
unemployment in India continues to stare in our faces. We have not
been able to solve this problem even after 60 years of independence.
According to latest indications, the no. of people on the live register
of employment exchanges in india is 32,776.82 thousand.
The result of this is such that people migrate to big cities in search
of employment.

Now let us see the scenario of unemployment in India.

Broadly speaking as on date the working population in various sectors in
India is projected as under (in millions):
(a)   Total workforce- 400
(b)  In organized sector- 40
(c)  In unorganized sector-360
This shows that only 10% of the working population is available under
the social security cover, while the majority is the deprived lot.
Indian labour is confronted with another concern: the concern of
migration. As we have seen that after the Second World War, the
enormous migration of labour in the Americas, in the continents, and
from the main land of China into Hong Kong. Today, in the present
dispensation, Indian labour force is confronted with the same
problem.
Highlights
1. India is one of the biggest emerging labour market of the future that will
be requiring a massive social security over.
2. The potential of Indian Labour is growing despite the scenario having been
under attack by the market force
3. In a highly competitive Indian market the labour has been marginalized in
the form of part time, temporary and unprotected, thus deprived of social
security.
4. Indian system of Social Security has remained very limited up till now, only
up to 10% in the organized sector.
Brain drain results in direct loss to the under developed and poor
countries who train them at a great cost. When these experts migrate
to advanced countries such countries stand to gain advantage without
having to spend anything on their training. According to the U.N.O.
report thousands of experts migrate from India to U.S.A, U.K,
Canada. U.S.A has been the biggest gainer of brain drain from India.
There are no. factors responsible for brain drain in India:-
1)India lacks job opportunities
2)We do not recognize talent in our people
3)India lacks facilities of advanced research
4)The stipends in foreign countries are substantial
To state some facts:-
1)70% of doctors working in Australia are Indians
2)80% of people working in silicon valley are Indians
3)Majority of people working in Microsoft & NASA are Indians
4)Citi group CEO is also an Indian
5)India has a pool of 23 million doctors & engineers yet look
technologically backward.

when the world recognizes our potential why can’t we?

ssshere’s no doubt that students constitute a vast segment of India's
population. They are dynamic and young. They can play a major role
in various development activities going on in the country. This can
come about only if their energies are channelized properly.
John.F.Kennedy once said “never ask what your country has
done for you but always question what you have done for your
country”. The first and foremost solution is that the youth must
identify itself as an Indian. Instead of blaming the system, the govt.
why not change the system? Why not be a part of it and bring out
change in it. We have been nurtured by this country and the need of
the hour is to work for our country. The need of the hour is that govt.
and youth work in communion. They need to complement each other.
To solve the problem of brain drain, India needs to develop a world
class infra. Unless we provide our youth, the world class infra our
youth is not going to stay here. As we enter into the globalization
era India must overcome its apprehensions and must remove all
restrictions. In accepting FDI’S. This will help India build a world
class infra that will attract young blood.
For eg ; Virgin Atlantic chairman Richard Branson in an
interview said “I have been trying launch my flying services in
Indian skies but I have not been able to do so because of
indian govt’s policies’
This will also solve the problem of unemployment.it will bring
with itself numerous jobs for educated and dynamic youth of
this country.
Those experts who have settled in foreign countries
should come back to India so that they can help India to
become a super power in the world.
This problem cannot be solved without the cooperation
of the people.
Political leaders must set an example for the youth by
preventing their children from going abroad and settling
there.
On becoming experts youth must not betray there country
by serving foreign countries
There is a need of shift ,a change in country policies. youth
needs take over the reigns on nation in its hands. New idea
,concepts ,policies is the need of the hour. Conventionalism
and conservatism must take over by unorthodox method of
working and ruling the nation. Politics now a days is a gutter
which stinks. Youth needs to clean it up. We can not shirk
away from our responsibilities towards our country and in
fusion of young blood into politics will certainly bring a
change.
There are ample laws regarding upliftment and development of
youth. But there enactment have not been fruitful. These laws
find there place in just books. Now there application is
negligible therefore a stringent judicial policy must be initiated
so as to help these young guns of India.
The problem of unemployment in India can be solved to a large
extent by adopting a multipronged strategy. First of all , the present
system of education should be changed. Education should be job
oriented. Higher education should opened to talented students only.
Other students should be diverted to polytechnics. The number of
polytechnics should be increased substantially. The economy of
village should be developed by setting up small–scale and agro-
based industries. The pace of industrialization of the country should
be stepped up to create more jobs. More and more labour intensive
industries should be set up in a country. Industrialist who wants to
set up such industries should be given liberal tax benefits and other
concessions. Thus, the problem of unemployment can be solved by
adopting a package of these measures.
For India, in the era of LPG, both industry and
agriculture are at cross road. Though, India is a
food surplus country and has over 45 million tons
of wheat and rice in its godown, over 250 million
children, women and men go to bed hungry every
day. From the only food secured to become
livelihood secured, India needs to overcome the
biggest challenge of social security in the country.
Only a sustained effort of placing labour under a
sound social security can ensure it.
