• At least eight African countries will have broken the 100% mobile
penetration barrier by the end of the year;

Nigeria broadband has a little penetration of one per cent out of the
estimated seven per cent of Internet access. In spite of this, Nigeria
ranks tenth in the list with 44 million Internet users.

Nigeria telecom operators register 11million SIM Cards.

The number of connected lines in Nigeria is currently put at 110


million with 80 million active subscribers and a teledensity of 61 per
cent.

Mobile teledensity has also increased substantially from 14% in


March 2001 to 131% in March 2010.

Teledensity for fixed telephony has declined from 8.4% to 7.6% over the same
period due largely to the fact that estimated population increases from
2001 to 2010 are higher than the increase in number of subscriptions.

INTERNET AND BROADBAND PENETRATION

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) reported that it had


11,978 subscribers for both fixed and mobile Internet services as at end
of March 2010. Out of the total, there were 9868 ADSL subscribers
compared with 8069 reported as at end of March 2009, showing an
increase of 1799 subscribers.
