Glass
History
 The float glass process was patented in
1848 by Henry Bessemer, an English
engineer.

 The forming of float glass on a tin bath

was described in patents in the United
States in 1902 by W. E. Heal and again
in 1925 by Hitchcock.

 Between 1953 and 1957, Sir Alastair
Pilkington and Kenneth Bickerstaff of the
UK's Pilkington Brothers developed the
first implementation of the forming of a
flat glass
GLASS MARKET :
SITUATION
ANALYSIS

at 72 million metric tons.

 Ofthe 72 million tons, approximately 2

 Growth is driven by building and automotive
glass primarily. However, glass products
are driven by economic conditions.

 With more than one-third (34%) of the

global market, China is the largest and
fastest growing market.

 Bigchallenge (biggest in US/Europe) is ever-
