URBS – Urbanização de Curitiba S/A

URBS was created by Municipal Law, in August 1963 with the


objective to administrate the Curitiba Urbanization Found (FUC).

Mixt economy company, with owne thecnical and financial


resourses.

Actual Function: Planning, management, operation, control and


inspection of public transport, transit and administration of urban
equipaments and public spaces.

Institutional Aspects

• Law nº 7556/90 - Regulates public transportation and


defines URBS – Urbanização de Curitiba S/A as the
manager and unique concessionary for this service.

• Decree nº 210/91 - Regulates the Public Transportation.

• Agreement with State Government - 1996 - Delegates to


URBS the planning and management of metropolitan
public transportation.

• Law nº 12.597 - 17/01/2008.

• Decree nº 1.356 - 16/12/2008.

Express Lines
Operated by red biarticulated buses, connecting Integrated
Terminals to downtown, using dedicated lanes named “axes”.
Boarding and disembark are done on level, in tube stations
along the route. Total: 07 lines

Direct Lines
Operated by silver “padron” buses, with stops every 3 km
and boarding and disembarking on level in the tube stations.
They are parallel lines, manly to the express and inter district
lines. Total: 18 lines

Operated by orange buses, “padron” or articulated,
connecting integration terminals to the neighbor areas.
Total = 215 lines

Inter District Lines

Operated by green buses, “padron” or articulated. Loop lines


connecting terminals. Total = 06 lines

Trunk Auxiliary Lines

Operated by yellow buses, “padron” or articulated,


connecting integration terminals to downtown, using non
dedicated lanes. Total = 21 lines

Special Lines

CONVENTIONAL LINES: Operated by yellow buses, standard or


micro, connecting districts to downtown, without integration.

INTER HOSPITAL LINE: Connects the main hospitals and


laboratories in an area of 5 km from the central area.

DOWNTOWN CIRCLE LINE: Operated with white micro buses, in


a loop line in downtown area.

TOURISM LINE: Starting from downtown it serves main


parks and tourist attractions in the city.
