LITERATURE REVIEW
▪ An important challenge today is how to improve and maintain Indoor Air
Quality, IAQ in buildings while at the same time reducing their overall
energy consumption
▪ acceptable IAQ depends upon 4 major considerations which are the
limiting pollution at the source, isolating unavoidable sources of
pollution, providing for an adequate supply and filtering fresh air and
circulated air and maintaining a building and its equipment in a clean
condition
▪ the purpose of ventilation is to maintain temperature, humidity and
pressure at comfortable levels such as control the humidity between 30%
to 70% relative humidity for human comfort to maintain a body
temperature Relative Humidity is a maximum of moisture that air can hold

STANDARD AND
REQUIREMENT
UNIFORM BUILDING BY LAW (UBBL 1984)
▪ As known, the housing industry in Malaysia is regarded as one of the
major industries that contribute to the economic and social development
of the country
▪ The Uniform Building By Law (UBBL 1984) of Malaysia is one of the
existence standards that has a reference about the minimum and
maximum limits of occupant’s comfort and has been implemented since
1984
▪ all modern building must follow those limitations suggested because to
ensure that building constructed by developers will meet the quality that
excepted
▪ UBBL is important to protect people’s safety, health and welfare in and
around the buildings as the regulations was designated to improve the
environment and sustainable development. 14
FIRE STANDARD SAFETY IN MALAYSIA
▪ The protection of the health and safety of Malaysian was an early motive
underlying legislation to safeguard the quality of the construction
industry in Malaysia
▪ the government organization that is responsible towards fire and life
safety is the Fire and Rescue Department Malaysia (FRDM).
▪ The fire safety standards implemented are in accordance with the
regulations in the Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) 1984, NFPA codes and
standards, Fire Services Act 1988 and the Hazardous Material (HAZMAT)
code and guide
▪ The FRDM strives to discharge its responsibilities in its prevention and
safety programs, and to increase its enforcement in relation to
inspections of buildings and business licensing activities

CONCLUSION
▪ ventilation performance in buildings can be evaluated from the following
four aspects, corresponding to the three basic elements of ventilation
discussed above
▪ The air exchange efficiency indicates how efficiently the fresh air is
being distributed in the room, while the ventilation effectiveness
indicates how efficiently the airborne pollutant is being removed from
the room
▪ fire protection system is very important components of a building’s
safety plan
▪ Without a fire protection system, the lives of those who are inside the
building are placed in high risk if there any emergency occurred
▪ All the mechanical and electrical system in all building must be
maintained for the long-lasting uses 17
