1.5 Research Objective
to find out the effect of Fix-Up strategy in enhancing students'
reading comprehension at grade tenth students of SMK Negeri 3
Lebong.
1.6 Significance of Research
Theoretically
This research may give more information about the implementation of
fix-up strategy in teaching reading.
Practically
This research can help the students to improve their reading
comprehension, giving the teacher an example of an effective reading
strategy in an English classroom, giving into practice of what the
researcher had learned about English language teaching and language
research.
CHAPTER II
LITERATURE REVIEW

Reading Skill
Reading is one of skills in English to make the people get an
information from what they read, and information from a
text, it needs a thinking process in order to be able to reach
the comprehension

Fix-Up Strategy
Fix up strategy is a strategy which can help the
students understand the message of the text when they
get stuck with certain words or certain sentences. When
using this strategy the teachers should provide the
students with some tools for fixing up their meaning-
making.
Relevant Previous Studies
1. Indrasari (2015) entitled “The Effectiveness of Using Fix-Up
Strategy to Teach Reading Viewed From Students’ Self-
Confidence”.
2. Anas (2017) entitled The Use of Collaborative Strategic
Reading(CSR) to Improve Students Reading
Comprehension(Classroom Action Research in the
TenthGrade Students of SMK Diponegoro Salatiga in the
Academic Year of 2016/2017).

Hypothesis
H1= There is any effect of applying fix-up strategy on the
students’ reading comprehension at grade X of SMK N 3 Lebong
H0= There is no effect of applying fix-up strategy on the students’
reading comprehension at grade X of SMK N 3 Lebong
CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Research Design
This study will employ a quasi experimental research design.
The researcher will use two groups: experimental and control
group. Experimental group is a group that use Fix-Up strategy
in teaching and learning process, while control group use
conventional method.
3.2 Operational Definition

3.3 Population and Sample
The population of this research is the tenth grade students of
SMKN 3 Lebong which consisted of 3 classes. The total number
of tenth grade in SMKN 3 Lebong is 91 students. In choosing
the sample, the reseacher will choose two classes which are
homogenous based on their meanscore on pre-test. The
researcher will also discuss the two classess with the teachers
who teach English in those classes.
3.4 Research Instrument
The instrument on this research is reading test which is aimed to
measure students’ reading comprehension. The researcher will
use multiple choice forms (A B C D options), and there are fifty
number of questions.

3.5 Technique of Collecting Data


In research procedure, the researcher will conduct the research
by using two steps. They are treatment and giving test.
