The document defines the Internet of Things (IoT) as connecting devices to the internet through switches or wireless networks to allow interaction without direct human involvement. It discusses how IoT is liked for enabling data storage, saving time, and improving accessibility compared to the past. The concept was first proposed in 1999 by Kevin Ashton to connect objects and people through RFID tags. Examples of IoT in the Philippines include smart alarms on phones. The document predicts IoT will improve security and efficiency over the next 3-5 years in the Philippines but may also increase laziness if overused. It concludes that as IoT reliance grows, media and information literacy is needed to properly and responsibly use connected technologies.

Things. -The internet of things is simply the concept of connecting any device with a switch to the internet. It is also the network of interconnected electronic devices that can sense or interact with their environment without face-to-face interaction. ● Do you like the concept of IoT? Why or why not? - We actually like the concept of IoT since it has already contributed a lot to the progress of our society. It was able to shape and change the world’s journey. -There are a lot of reasons why we approve of IoT as part of our lives and one of them is the capability of it to store huge amounts of data. IoT also helped in making our lives easier by saving time. Through the help of technology, a lot of things are accessible compared to the lives in the past. ● What brought this theory about? -Kevin Ashton first brought this concept in 1999 when he said that RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)is a necessity for the Internet of Things. It was mentioned that, “if all objects and people in daily life were equipped with identifiers, computers could manage and inventory them.” -This theory states that the Internet of Things are all electronic devices that exchange data or information through the internet using a local or wireless network. Anything that can be connected will be connected as long as it involves the internet. ● In what situations do you encounter IoT in the Philippines? -We have encountered some situations wherein IoT is involved. One prominent example is when we set an alarm for school. Our phone was automatically sets the alarm 5-10 minutes before the original time. It help us a lot in the morning because we are usually moving like a turtle. ● How do you think IoT will evolve and affect Filipino society in the next 3 to 5 years? -We think that the IoT will improve a lot in terms of security and efficiency. And It will surely make a huge impact in a sense that there might be advantages and disadvantages. Though the security and efficiency is high compared to what we have now there is still a possibility that IoT may take over our minds. This can result in laziness and idle citizens. ● What do you think is the relationship/cause and effect of IoT in media and information literacy? -We think that the relationship of Internet of Things with media and information literacy is that there is corresponding responsibility needed for the internet users if they want to prioritize literacy. If a person solely depends their life in the Internet of Things they should know the liability of being able to use one. A person has an obligation to use it properly without abusing their right and power.
