STOPE PLANNING PROCEDURES

OBJECTIVE

To provide Supervisors with basic planning guide lines to ensure that the stoping operations
are conducted in an efficient and controllable manner.

1. CYCLE CONTROL SHEET

i. Panels to be mined for the month will be recorded on the control sheet.

ii. Each planned blast will be plotted in ink on the control sheet by the Miner and the Shift
Supervisor. This will be completed for the new month on the 14 measuring shift of the current
month.

iii. The Shift Supervisor will calculate face advance, m² to be broken and tonnage for each panel
from the cycle sheet and record this information on his stope planning summary.

iv. The cycle sheet will be updated daily by the Miner and the Shift Supervisor - each blast will
be recorded.

v. On a weekly basis ( every sixth shift) the Shift Supervisor will measure advances on each of
his panels underground and plot these on his 1:200 stope plan. He will compare measured
results to daily blasts booked and take the necessary corrective action.

vi. Reasons for non achievements of planned cycle must be recorded on cycle sheet and
corrective action taken where required.

2. STOPE PLANNING SUMMARY

i. The production planned for each panel will be recorded from cycle sheet onto this form.

ii. The labour required to achieve the production will be calculated according to the cycle
planned.

by the 18 th measuring shift.

3. STOPE PLANS

i. The Shift Supervisor will have available a 1:200 stope sheet for each of the panels planned
in his section . This plan will show the next three months planned stoping, the winch
position, the ventilation flow / control and the location of air and water pipes.

ii. Each week’s plotted measured advance line will be on the plan. Each of these plot lines
will be dated.

iii. Panels will have reference numbers which correspond to those depicted on the 1:1000
plan in the planning room.

iv. At least monthly the 1:1000 plan will be updated and stoping advance will be checked
against the TE 1:1000 plan.

STOPE PLANNING PROCEDURES

ix. Where circumstances are such that standard stoping instructions cannot be followed,
special instructions will be written onto the plan and signed for by all concerned. The
approval of the H.O.D. concerned will be signed for by him on the plan.

x. The minutes of the previous month’s planning meeting will be followed up at this
presentation.

GENERAL

i. The TE is the main basis for all planning at the declines and is the minimum requirements.
Any deviations in terms of labour or production must be approved by the Business Area
Manager and Business Manager.

ii. Planning without team involvement and input or which has not been communicated to the
team is meaningless and a waste of time.

iii. Mining sequence is very important at the declines as development required to create ore
reserves must not be affected by stoping operations.

iv. It is imperative that water control be planned for each panel to ensure development and
road ways are not adversely affected.

v. Each Supervisor must budget for his planned production and have control of all material
and equipment issued to his section.
