 Speakers are devices that are usually made for
the purpose of outputting audio to be heard.
While most of the speakers out there are made to
convert electromagnetic waves into sound
waves, but some others can amplify sounds, not
changing the type of wave in the process. The
INTRODUCTION amplification of the sound wave is due to some
factors, resonance and the speed of sound, good
amplifiers use materials that allows the sound to
be mostly unaffected an travel fast. And
resonance helps the waves build a constructive
interference between waves, making the sound
louder.
 The design here was based loosely of
the way a ear behaves, the sounds come
from a wider area (auricle), into a
smaller area (cochlea) were the sound
then get released into the nerves. Also
DESIGN the squares are meant to be small to
have a better resonance since it bounces
back and fourth in that small area,
therefore adding sound and bass to the
sound.
 Biomimicry is the practice of creating products or designs based of the imitation of
models found in nature. An example of biomimicry being used is the shinkansen,
the Japanese bullet train, its design was based of the beak of a bird, which makes it
a lot more aerodynamic, causing it to travel faster and to make little to no noise
when it travels.
 Out design was based of the ear of a dog since that animal is well-known for having
a better hearing than humans. The shape of the ear of a dog, most of them have
upright and curved ears, and we tried to imitate these shapes in our design to
create resonance and are able to amplify sounds.

Step 1 Make the blueprints with real measurements of each of the sides.

Step 2 Use a saw to cut out each of the sides based off the blue prints.

Step 3 Make the four different shapes using the cutout pieces of Wood.

Step 4 Glue the pieces togheter using the help of sticks to maintain a firm structure.

Step 5 Cove the inside with aluminium foil.

 PROGRESS SHOTS
 As a conclusion, the design at first
makes the sound a bit muffled, this
might be a cause of the small place the
sound moves out of, making it difficult
for it to move from the larger box. To
help this is was decided that small

DEMOSTRATION holes were going to be made at the

sides of the larger box to avoid the
sound from interfering itself. Moreover,
when the boxes from the front were
removed, the sound wasn´t muffled.
When the loudness was compared, the
device made the sound greater by
approximately 10-20Db.
