BABYSITTING

BBI2O1-02
ZAINAB IQBAL
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
For my business proposal, I would like to start my own babysitting service for infants and
children of the ages one through ten. To safely monitor and take care of these children, my
business would require special equipment such as safety equipment, educational games and toys
as well as other materials that children and infants need daily. So, for this essential equipment
that’s necessary to start my babysitting service, I would like to receive $1,000 that will be
returned over a six month time period after my business has started up.
BUSINESS
DESCRIPTION
In present time today, babysitting is a job that is needed more than it
was needed fifty years ago because nowadays the number of
mothers who have joined the workforce has increased drastically. So,
many parents need a babysitter who can watch over their children
while they go to work. Also, in the Niagara region, there are many
new home settlements being built and young couples with children
are moving into them which opens up more opportunities for
babysitters since 6 out of 10 Canadian children need a babysitter. In
addition to this, in the future the opportunity for babysitting will be
greater since more people would have heard of my business and I
would have many more customers as well.
MARKET
STRATEGIES
The way that I would market my business is by paying
corporations such as Instagram, Facebook, and Google to share
my ads on their pages that would be directed to my target
audience which is parents with children aged one to ten in the
Niagara region. Advertising on Instagram, Facebook, and Google
can become expensive. However, it is still a lot cheaper than
advertising in newspapers and is more efficient too since you
can make sure that your target audience sees your ad.
Furthermore, after I have advertised on these social media
websites, I would create my own website using an easy website
designing page such as Weebly to help gain more customers and
promote my business even more.
COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
One of the strengths of the competitors within my market could be that they might have more
experience within the babysitting profession since they have been pursuing this career for much
longer than I have. A strategy that would provide me with a distinct advantage is that I can relate
more to kids that are closer to my age and I would know how to help solve their problems in the
best way possible than someone who is older and can’t understand how to help these children.
Some of the weaknesses of the competitors within my market would be that they might be
charging a lot more money for watching children per hour whereas I would only charge $13.15
per hour for each child that I’m taking care of. So, some parents would prefer to have babysitter
that they can pay less money to for the same service.

PLAN
The following is a breakdown of how my business would run on a daily basis.
-Keep the play area safe and free from hazards while monitoring children consistently throughout
the day.
-Sanitize play equipment, games and toys on a regular basis to keep them safe while minimizing the
spread of germs.
-Change diapers, dress children and assist them with their snacks, drinks and meals as needed.
-Teach children the importance of good personal hygiene and health habits, including the
importance of brushing teeth, eating healthy food, and getting adequate rest.
-Engage in educational activities with the children, including reading, crafts, drawing, colouring and
singing.
-Keep an individual record for each child that includes information about his or her behaviors,
daily activities, meals eaten, medications received and other important details. Then, discuss this
information with each child’s parents on a daily or weekly basis.
-Discipline unruly children as needed, focusing on using creative ways to encourage good behavior
such as picking up after themselves, participating in the lesson plans and treating each other kindly.
-Create daily lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate, fun and interesting. Lesson plans
should always encourage full participation from each child.
All of these tasks would only cost about $200 for craft supplies, books, colouring tools, diapers,
and snacks.
FINANCIAL
FACTORS
My breaking even point to where I am making just a
little over the money that I’ve spent and invested
into this business would be to make $1,052 monthly.
This would be achieved by me babysitting children
for around five hours on Saturdays and Sundays
which would add up to $131.50 by earning $13.15
per hour, and when it’s multiplied by four for an
entire month, I would be making $1,052 per month.
This money would then help keep my business
running and I would be gaining profit from this as
well.
