1- Truss or Rod elements

Example #1: Rod element subjected to Tensile Force

Analytic solutions: Analytic solutions:


• Stress = Force/Area • Displacement = Force x length/Area x E
= F/(pi*r2) = FL/AE
= 100,000/ (3.14 x 25 x 25) = 100,000*500/ (3.14 x 25 x 25 x 210,000)
= 50.95 (N/mm2) = 50.95 MPA = 0.12 (mm)

= 5.714 (mm)

• Stress (max) = Mmax x c /I = -FL*(h/2)/(bh3/12) = 6FL/bh2


= 6 x 30,000 x 1000/ (1003)
= 180 (N/mm2)
