 The term "United States", when used in the geographical

 Executive: The President is the commander-in-chief of the military ,
can veto legislative bills before they become law (subject to
Congressional override), and appoints the members of the Cabinet
(subject to Senate approval) and other officers, who administer and
enforce federal laws and policies.
 Judicial: The Supreme Court and lower federal courts, whose judges
are appointed by the President with Senate approval, interpret laws
and overturn those they find unconstitutional.
Makeup of Congress

 House of Representatives
The 435 seats of the House grouped by state. The House currently consists of
435 voting members, each of whom represents a congressional district. The
number of representatives each state has in the House is based on
each state's population as determined in the most recent United States
Census.All 435 representatives serve a two-year term.

 Senate
In contrast, the Senate is made up of two senators from each state, regardless
of population. There are currently 100 senators (2 from each of the 50 states),
who each serve six-year terms. Approximately one-third of the Senate stands
for election every two years.

 Canada's Parliament has two branches:
a) the executive branch
b) the legislative branch
 The executive branch includes: the Monarch, who is
represented in Canada by the Governor General,
the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.
 The members of the executive branch are the decision
makers of Parliament; they implement the laws.
 The legislative branch, on the other hand, makes the laws.

The legislative branch includes: the Monarch (represented

in Canada by the Governor General), the Senate, whose

members are appointed by the Governor General on the

advice of the Prime Minister, and the House of Commons,

whose members are elected by voters.
