PROBLEM STATEMENT
Who is affected by the problem? How many?
Target group  38 number of Year 3 pupils from SK Taman Cahaya
Masai.

The problem started when my colleague commented on his


difficulties to make the pupils comprehend in telling the time in
English.
(as it is one of the syllabus from the textbook)

Why is it important to solve this problem?


It is really crucial especially when they need to use the expression in
their daily routine.

The needs of using clear expression is important to have effective


communication ( Ahmad, 2016)

Besides having grammatical knowledge about a language the


social and functional aspects of a language are equally important.
(Brown, 2000).
PROBLEM STATEMENT
How do they solve this problem now?
They are using the clock diagram used by the teacher.

Who else has attempted to solve the


problem?
The other English teachers who are teaching this topic will use
the textbook to make the pupils understand

How effective are current


solutions/attempts?
The existing materials only allow the advanced learners to easily
grasp the skill; but not to the weak ones. They are having
difficulties in telling time in English.

IDENTIFICATION AND DEFINITION
OF DESIGN VARIABLES
In order to help the pupils, a teaching kit will
be invented prior to the existing materials.

Name of the invention : Reading Time Kit


Target group : Year 3

How it works? :
I’m going to invent a teaching kit with improvement of
the clock diagram in order to assist the pupils on how
read or say the time correctly. The teaching kit will consist
of materials that can be used in groups and also it can
conducted in game method to promote fun learning
process.
IDENTIFICATION OF CONSTRAINTS

What is the constraint for the suggested idea?


The applied language among the teachers will be the constraint in
executing the idea. Some English teachers use bilingual or even fully
Malay language in explaining the concept to the pupils. This
invention will not be effectively helpful if the teachers themselves are
not promoting the target language.
