INTRODUCTION

Web clustering Engines are emerging trend in the field of information

retrieval. Web clustering engines organize search results by topic , thus
offering a complementary view to the flat ranked list returned by conventional
search engines.

Example – Yippy.
SEARCH ENGINE

What is a search engine?

FLAT RANKED VS. CLUSTERED SEARCH ENGINE

Google ( Flat Ranked )

Yippy ( Clustered Search Engine )
WEB CLUSTERING ENGINE

 Web Clustering Engine complementary of conventional Search

Engine.

 Clustering is the act of grouping similar object into single set, so that, the

documents of one cluster differ from documents of another cluster.

 Way of assisting users .

WHY CLUSTERING ENGINE ?

 Much more efficient in ambiguous queries.

 Produce relevant results.

 Simplifies effort of the users.

Hence, to simplify all this effort of the user Web Clustering Engine came into

existence.
USAGE

 Gives quick overview of results.

 Makes shortcuts.

 Systematic exploration of results.

 Better topic understanding.

ISSUES IN IMPLEMENTING OF CLUSTER

 Meaningful labels.

 Unknown number of clusters.

 Short input data description.

 Grouping of objects into clusters.

CONCLUSION

Hence, the general short, ambiguous queries which can’t specify the

actual information needs of the users. Clustering is the best possible

solution for this problem .To improve the search result clustering;

 Needs to improve the quality of the cluster labels and cluster

structure.

 It should lead to algorithms that allow for overlapping clusters.

 Use of advanced visualization techniques .
