METHODOLOGY
- descriptive comparative and correlational
method of investigation.
The respondents are the DMMMSU College of Education
teachers from Basic Education and those handling major
subjects and professional subjects. Subjects of teachers
with more than 20 students only were taken for the item
analysis in this study. For subjects with more than 30
students, only the upper and lower 27% of the class were
included in the item analysis. The students’ performance
in the subject was also taken.

easy.
2. The test prepared by faculty is
discriminating.

FINDINGS:
3. There is no significant difference in the
index of difficulty and index of
discrimination of tests when grouped
according to basic education subjects, major
and professional subjects
4. There is a significant relationship between
index of difficulty, index of discrimination
and performance of students.

Education prepare tests of acceptable
degree of difficulty and appropriate to
the level of their students.

Recommendations:
1. The faculty members to continue preparing tests
which are of acceptable degree of difficulty and
appropriate to the level of their students however,
they should demand higher order thinking skills to
challenge students’ critical and analytical thinking.
2. Tests that require recall and memorization should be
minimized.
3. Teacher-made tests should range from 20% easy, 60%
moderate to 20% difficult and such should be reflected in
the table of specifications.

Recommendations:
4. Teachers should consider individual differences among
students and tests should strike a balance between
objective, essay, performance and variety of types of test
to do away with monotony as well as to establish the
reliability of test.
5. Teachers to continue doing item analysis to select best
items in their test and being able to master crafting test
items which are of appropriate difficulty and are
discriminating.

Recommendations:
6. The training program is highly recommended to
continue improving the quality of assessment tools used
by the faculty.
7. Similar research can be conducted with the aim of
determining quality of assessment tools not only along
index of difficulty and index of discrimination but also on
content validity, reliability, usability, practicality and
efficiency.
