INTRODUCTION

Milk is the nutrient-rich liquid secreted by the


mammary glands of female mammal’s .The female
ability to produce milk is one of the defining
characteristics of mammals. It provides the primary
source of nutrition for newborns before they are able
to digest other types of food. The early lactation milk
is known as colostrums, and carries the mother's
antibodies to the baby. It can reduce the risk of many
diseases in the baby. The Bihar State Co-operative
Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd. (COMFED) was
established in 1983 as the implementing agency of
operational Flood program of dairy development on
“Anand” pattern in Bihar
HISTORY
The co-operative was founded in 1983 to coordinate the work of
various local milk unions. The government opened Nalanda dairy in
2013. The establishment of Sudha was a result of White Revolution.

Six district level Milk Producers' Cooperative Unions are affiliated to


the Federation. These unions cover twenty-six districts. In addition,
five districts are covered directly by the Federation. They are:
• Vaishali Patliputra Milk Union, Patna covering Patna, Vaishali, Nalanda,
Saran and Sheikhpura districts.
• DR Milk Union (DRMU), Barauni covering Begusarai, Khagaria,
Lakhisarai, and part of Patna Districts.
• Tirhut Milk Union (TIMUL), Muzaffarpur covering Muzaffarpur,
Sitamarhi, Sheohar, (Motihari)East Champaran, West Champaran,
Siwan, and Gopalganj.
• Mithila Milk Union, Samastipur covering Samastipur, Darbhanga &
Madhubani, Basopatti districts.
• Shahabad Milk Union, Ara covering Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur & Rohtas
districts.
• Vikramshila Milk Union (VIMUL), Bhagalpur: Covering Bhagalpur,
Munger, Banka and Jamui Districts.

The very first step of production is procurement


process which involves following things:-

 Transportation,handling,storage.
SUPPLIERS

Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation Ltd.


(COMFED) is the major source of milk. The total
collection of Bihar State Milk Co-operative
Federation Ltd. is 20,00,000 ltrs. from which
1,40,000 ltrs is for Sudha Dairy Jamshedpur.

Two types of milk is being collected from COMFED.

 COW – 70% to 80% SOURCE


 BUFFALO – 20 % to 30% SOURCE
QUANTITY
Every dairy industry operates at its capacity to be a profitable. So in
this competitive environment to have some specific volume of raw
milk some time is the biggest challenge then quality. If a procurement
department is failing to achieve the target quantity, it means it is not
functioning properly. This definitely affects dairy business. Following
factors affect the quantity:

 Season (availability of milk)


 Market competition
 Rate of milk
 Payment system (direct/banks)
 Payment duration (at Spot, after week, after fortnight)
 Milk procurement size (larger the size of the procurement greater the
quantity of
 milk)
 Company strategy.
 Raw milk receiving parameters
QUALITY

Good quality milk is essential for production of good


quality dairy products, taste and flavor, free from
pathogens and long keeping quality. Good quality
raw milk must be:

a. Free from debris and sediment


b. Free from off-flavors.
c. Low in bacterial numbers.
d. Normal composition and acidity.
e. Free of antibiotics and chemical residues.
