LEADERSHIP

❖ Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill encompassing


the ability of an individual organisations to "lead" or guide other
individuals, teams, or entire organisations
❖ A leadership style is a leader's style of providing direction,
implementing plans, and motivating people. It is the result of the
philosophy, personality, and experience of the leader.
❖ Autocratic, Democratic and Free Rein are the three main leadership
styles.
Leadership Issues:

❖ Lack of Accountability
❖ Fear of firing
❖ Lack of alignment
❖ Lack of clear vision
❖ Poor Execution
❖ A company culture by default
Ethical Leadership:

❖ Ethics → ‘Ethos’ → Custom or character


❖ Code of values that guides individual or group behaviour with respect
to what is right or wrong.
❖ Leadership: Relationship between the leader and followers
(Situational/ Organisational)
❖ An ethical leader enables his followers to do the “right thing”
❖ Leadership in organizational ethics defines how individuals should
behave in an organization.

organisation

❖ Willing to take personal risks for making the right decisions
❖ Make timely and complete disclosure of necessary information
❖ Encourage critical evaluation
❖ Employ the necessary means to develop the skills of followers
❖ Inculcate the desired traits in followers
Integrity

❖ Latin ‘integritatem’ (wholeness)


❖ Consistency of actions, values, principles and behaviour
❖ Eg. Aggie Code of Honor, Hippocrates Oath
❖ Leaders must create an environment where integrity is the expected
behavior.
❖ Integrity builds trust between the leader and team
Practical ways leaders can
develop/display integrity

❖ Be honest and treat people well.


❖ Don’t exaggerate successes and be quick to praise others
contributions
❖ Leaders also need to hold themselves accountable not just to their
superiors but also to their peers and staffs
❖ Consider conducting a self audit
Wisdom:

● Determines the definition of Quality


● Wisdom can be considered to be a useful 'truth' with a long shelf life
('it has stood the test of time'), and it is particularly related to insights
that are useful in understanding the relationships that work well
within ourselves, and in relationships with each other and with the
universe as a whole.
● If we want to manage complexity successfully, and make progress in
the world today, we have to start by getting the simple things right.
This needs to be based on more effective understanding, and use, of
accumulated Wisdom.
