IV. WHY THE URGENCY OF THE MESSAGE:
DISCUSSION:
WHAT IS THE MESSAGE OF MERCY?

• Message is nothing new, but a reminder of

what the Church has always taught us that
God is merciful and forgiving and that, we,
too, must also show mercy and forgiveness
to others.

• It is a special gift by Jesus to our times

reminding us of the depth of His mercy and
inviting us to put our complete trust in Him, a
message which is clear and understandable
for everyone.
• The whole Bible is a product of God’s mercy to all of
mankind, the whole history of salvation recorded in
the Bible unfolded from God’s mercy.

• Recall: Old Testament-

• In fact, the whole story of God’s chosen people,
Israel, shows how the Lord taught them more and
more of His faithfulness to His merciful love for them
and His compassion for their plight when they
continuously entrusted themselves both when
stricken with misfortune and when they became
aware of their sins, to the God of mercies.
• New Testament-(John 3:16)-GOSPEL
G - God so loved the world that He gave His
O - Only begotten
S - Son that those who believe in Him will not
P - Perish but will have
E - Everlasting
L - Life.

• Mercy is God’s greatest attribute (according to St.

Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. John Paul II and
St. Faustina Kowalska).
