1. ACKNOWLEDGMENT
In this three years of engineering our faculty members has
guided us to achieve a goal and made us capable for completing our engineering
successfully. So we would never like to miss the chance of faculty members those
made us asset of institute and always be confident to achieving our goals. We
would like to give our sincere regard to our respected guide Mr.V.H SUTHAR giving
his excellent guidance to improve this project. So we are thankful to him for giving
such an excellent guidelines. We would also like to thanks to our Prof. K.S.PATEL
(Head of Department) who provided important suggestion for the project.
We are also thankful to our friends and well-wishers, for their
constant support which helped us in successful completion and working of this
project had been a term effort so also praise should go to each and every member.
We are thankful to all of this who helps us to complete our work. We are indebted
to our family members for their moral support.
2. ABSTRACT

The increasing demand for comfort air conditioning

has brought world in the need for greater increment in the usage of air
conditioner, because day by day temperature keeps on rising due to
global warming. The purpose of this project is to recondition the
‘Experimental Window AC’ from a breakdown condition so that students
can perform practical on it that how actual COP and capacity of Air
conditioner is found out and how much electricity is consumed in
prescribed time/period interval. With the help of this project our future
students of our college may get practical knowledge about Refrigeration
& Air Conditioning Systems.
3. INTRODUCTION

Refrigeration deals mainly

with the temperature control, but air
conditioning is a science which focuses on
various parameters of air such as
temperature, moisture content, purity and
movement of air. It is mainly used for
producing control atmosphere. Air
conditioning can be define as a process of
conditioning air by controlling its
temperature, moisture, purity and
distribution, according to requirement of
particular space.
4. WORKING PRINCIPLE OF WINDOW AC
• Air Conditioner works on the mechanism of
refrigerant liquid. This liquid changes to
gas and evaporates as it extracts heat
from the air around it and in low pressure
conditions it again gets converted to liquid
and after entering into the normal pressure
region this again changes into gas. Any
A.C. will comprise of three parts i.e. a
compressor, a condenser and an
evaporator. Compressor and condenser
are usually kept outside the house where
as an evaporator is kept inside the house.
Compressor is the most important part of
all the three as it pumps the vapor
refrigerant through the system.
WORKING OF WINDOW AC:-

• Standard vapour compression cycle is used. High pressure, high

temperature gas enters the condenser from compressor. With the help
of condenser fan outside air enters the condenser. Refrigerant is
condensed due to this air.
• This condensed refrigerant (liquid refrigerant) enters the
expansion valve. In this valve pressure is reduced from condenser to
evaporator pressure. This low temperature low pressure gas enters the
evaporator. This refrigerant is evaporated in the evaporator and
because of this heat is absorbed from the conditioned space.
• Evaporator fan is used to draw hot air from the room to the
evaporator. Before entering the evaporator, air is cleaned with the help
of filter placed ahead of the evaporator. Air flow is control by dampers.
The evaporated refrigerant enters the compressor. This refrigerant is
compressed by the compressor and cycle is repeated.
• This condensate from the evaporator is collected in a tray. this
condensate is taken out by a tube provided. The refrigerant used is R-
22.
5. FAULTS IN EXPERIMENTAL WINDOW AC

• 1. Leak in the suction pipe, beacuse of that gas got leaked.

• 2. Chocked up driers.
• 3. Condenser fan making noise because blades of fan were
touching.
• 4. Refrigerant has to be charged.
6. FLOW DIAGRAM OF EXPERIMENTAL WINDOW AC
7. REPAIRING AND RECONDITIONING STEPS:-

• 1. First of all we changed the faulty plug with new one.

• 2. Then we changed a leaked suction pipe peace with new one done with brazing.
• 3. Then we removed the chockef up driers and installed two new driers.
Driers- DM 50
• 4. Then we checked whether there is leakage in joints or not, with the help of filling pressure in the
system with a spare compressor. We got no leakage.
• 5. After ensuring no leakage, we did vaccum in the system then we charged the refrigerant R-22 in the
system around 1.90 -2.0 Kg in the compressor.
• We also removed the faulty charging valve and installed a new valve named NRV valve. We charged
refrigerant from this new valve.
• 6. This is how we repaired and reconditioned this project from a
breakdown condition.
• The project is ready for taking reading from it to find COP and
capacity of window AC.
SUMMARY

• The aim and purpose of our project is to increase the practical lab capability so that practicals can be
performed. With the help of this project the future students of our college may get practical knowledge
about Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and how COP and capacity of window AC can be find out.
