INVESTIGATION ON ADHESIVE WEAR BEHAVIOUR

OF ALUMINIUM SILICON AND TITANIUM SPUR


GEAR
ABSTRACT
Metal Matrix Composites (MMC’s) have been developed to meet the
demand for lighter materials with high specific strength, and wear
resistance. Among Metal matrix composites particulate reinforced
aluminum, silicon and titanium composites are attractive due to significant
improvements in mechanical and physical properties
In this work , an effort has been designed to raise the reliability of
using Al-Si-Ti composites with other alternatively materials for spur gear.
This paper analysis the spur gear material on mechanical properties of
the Al-Si-Ti composite material by using composite model gear and plate
evaluate the mechanical properties.
Literature review
• Rittner (2001) have presented the applications of metal matrix
composites in defense, aerospace and light vehicles. She has
concluded that the scope for MMC in all the above areas were
optimistic and suggested further improvement in processes,
selection of alloy, selection of reinforcement and selection of
components to reduce the cost of end product. Robert (2001) has
presented various forms of aluminium alloys and their applications.
• This serves a two-fold goal of the companies that is to lower the
overall weight of the vehicle thus increasing fuel efficiency and to
increase the sustainability of their manufacturing process. Many
companies such as Mercedes Benz, Toyota and DaimlerChrysler
have already accomplished this and are looking to expand the uses
of natural fiber composites.
INTRODUCTION

Aluminium, silicon and titanium materials or simply


composites are combinations of materials. They are made
up of combining two or more materials in such a way that
the resulting materials have certain design properties on
improved properties The Aluminium alloy composite materials
consist of high specific strength, high specific stiffness,
more thermal stability, more corrosion
and wear resistance, high fatigue life.
Uses of composites

• The biggest advantage of modern composite


materials is that they are light as well as strong.
By choosing an appropriate combination of
matrix and reinforcement material, a new
material can be made that exactly meets the
requirements of a particular application.
Composites also provide design flexibility
because many of them can be moulded into
complex shapes. The downside is often the cost.
Although the resulting product is more efficient,
the raw materials are often expensive.

Advantages
• Advantages of Composites. Light Weight -
Composites are light in weight, compared to
most woods and metals. Their lightness is
important in automobiles and aircraft, for
example, where less weight means better fuel
efficiency (more miles to the
gallon). Composite materials can be designed
to be both strong and light.
